Today’s haul:
Two cassettes — “Greatest Hits! of Tatsuro Yamashita” by Tatsuro Yamashita, and “The Slide Area” by Ry Cooder; and
Seven CDs — “Neil Young” by Neil Young, “The Graduate” by Simon & Garfunkel, “Sketches of Spain” and “Miles in Tokyo” by Miles Davis, “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye, “Madvillainy” by Madvillain, and “Fleet Foxes” by Fleet Foxes
Greetings from Osaka! This leg of the trip/vacation yielded this haul. I skipped the Tower Records here and went instead to Disk Union in Osaka’s Umeda District. It’s a smaller shop with a homier, more “indie” vibe compared to Tower Records, which I admit, can seem “corporate” and a bit “brutalist.” No special section/rack dedicated to the latest T-Swizzle release in Disk Union, if that’s any indication. 😅
Quite happy with the stuff I got — some are old favorites that I’ve never seen physical editions of. And apart from the Tatsuro Yamashita tape and the Madvillain CD, all of these are used, but remain in excellent condition. 👍🏼 Thanks to my lovely wife for taking that photo of “me” with the Miles Davis albums (Slide 2). ❤️
I had wanted to get albums by the Japanese folk singer Tsunekichi Suzuki on this trip. Like his country, there’s just a calming quality in Suzuki’s music — like Leonard Cohen but even more zen. But alas, his albums are out of stock in both Tower and Disk Union. Here’s hoping that there will still be a next time.
