I can't tell you how many times I hear
"My dog is reactive so I'm taking them around more [dogs/humans/birds]"
In theory it's great
But in reality
That's now how it works!
There is a protocol for building your reactive dog up to be ready for public access
Dogs who are barking, lunging, and snarling
Are not ready to be in public spaces with their triggers
In my program we don't begin socialization and public access work until weeks 4-6, depending on the dog!
Each dogs readiness varies. You gotta work with an expert in reactivity to make sure you're not out there too soon
But also don't delay the process unnecessarily by being too soft!
Tell me in the comments how long you've been working on your dog's reactivity... what you've tried/what you're working on + any questions you have about the healing journey 💬💖🐕
let me help you!
Ps. I'm not saying I APPRECIATE it when people stare at my dogs or give them attention but it's not like... a big deal when your foundation and relationship Are solid
