Nach Artikel 20 versteht sich die BRD als demokratischer und sozialer Bundesstaat, in dem alle Staatsgewalt vom Volke ausgeht. Die Gesetzgebung ist an die verfassungsmäßige Ordnung, die vollziehende Gewalt und die Rechtsprechung sind an Recht und Gesetz gebunden. #OTD in 1798 – The first clashes of The United Irish Rebellion begins in Wexford and in Leinster just after dawn. The Irish Rebellion of 1798 (Éirí Amach 1798), also known as the United Irishmen Rebellion (Éirí Amach na nÉireannach Aontaithe), was an uprising against British rule in Ireland lasting from May to September 1798. The United Irishmen, a republican revolutionary group influenced by the ideas of the American and French revolutions, were the main organising force behind the rebellion. The rebellion conclusively failed and resulted in the execution of 34 of its key leaders and supporters and ultimately led to the Act of Union of 1800, in which Ireland was fully brought under the governmental control of England.

#OnThisDay in 1701, British privateer Captain Kidd was hanged for piracy and murder at Execution Dock in Wapping, London. The execution became infamous for its gruesome twist—during the first attempt, the hangman's rope snapped, momentarily sparing Kidd's life. Some spectators saw this as a divine sign for his release, but their hopes were short-lived. Kidd was hanged once more shortly afterward and succumbed to his fate. These two celebrations were linked to one another because, while the first Tubilustrium was dedicated to Mars, the second Tubilustrium was dedicated to Vulcan. In ancient times, it marked the end of the military campaign with neighbouring people or, at least, the first round of military campaigns during the year. Vulcan had his temple at the Circus Flaminius outside the perimeter walls of the city because, since the time of the Etruscans it was believed that no God, who might have set the city on fire, was allowed to stay inside the perimeter walls. The celebrations included the consacration of the enemy's bodies and weapons to Vulcan and the purification of the tubae -trumpets- after the battle. Nino Benvenuti avenged a loss and made his fourth defense of the middleweight championship with an 8th round KO of Tom Bethea at the Sports Stadium Arena in Umag, Croatia (then Yugoslavia) #OnThisDay in 1970. Benvenuti held the junior middleweight title in the 1960s and was on his second middleweight title reign after losing and regaining the title against Emile Griffith. In hindsight, Benvenuti was at the end of a storied career and also landed a part in the film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." The champion was seemingly caught off guard in a non-title bout against Tom "The Bomb" Bethea a few months earlier. Benvenuti absorbed a beating and then abruptly quit in the middle of the 8th round. He claimed to have a rib injury, saying, "I wanted to give a good show. My pride is hurt." It was his first stoppage loss. This time, in Croatia's first world title bout, Benvenuti boxed with far more caution and used his jab to good effect. When Bethea again tried to work Benvenuti's body, like in the first bout, the champion backed off and flicked his lead hand. By round 4, Bethea, a stablemate of Emile Griffith, was cut over his right eye. In round 8, a left-right combination stunned Bethea and he backed to a corner, where Benvenuti cracked him with a right hand over his shoulder that put him down for the count. "I wanted to take this opportunity of revenging [the first fight]," Benvenuti said in his dressing room. Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag, liebes Grundgesetz! Heute vor 75 Jahren ist das Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland und damit die Verfassung Deutschlands erlassen worden. Der erste bundesweite Tag der Archive im Jahr 2001 hatte damals noch kein Motto, aber auf dem Veranstaltungsplakat ist die Beurkundungsseite der Verfassungsurkunde abgedruckt. Das Plakat wird im Stadtarchiv aufbewahrt. Ein gedrucktes Exemplar des Grundgesetzes aus dem Jahr 1955 wird hier ebenfalls aufbewahrt (Bild 3). Das Heft ist beim Abschied von der Schule vom Kultusminister des Landes NRW, Werner Schütz, an jeden Schüler und jede Schülerin überreicht worden. #UnDíaComoHoy, 23 DE MAYO: La historia cuenta que… -En 1981, el puertorriqueño Wilfred "El Radar" Benítez se convirtió en el primer peleador latino en ganar cetros mundiales en tres pesos al noquear espectacularmente al antiguano Maurice Hope en el round 12 para quitarle el título junior mediano (154 libras) del CMB en una reyerta efectuada en el Caesars Palace Pavillion Center de Las Vegas. Hope, quien residía en Inglaterra, defendía su correa por cuarta vez ante Benítez, que con sólo 22 años había sido ya campeón mundial en las 140 y las 147 libras. La pelea fue la clásica de Benítez utilizando su gran defensiva y buen contragolpeo para dominar al zurdo Hope durante gran parte de la acción. Benítez envió a la lona al final del round 10 a Hope, pero éste se levantó y continuó el encuentro hasta que en el 12do asalto una potente derecha cruzada aterrizó en la mandíbula de Hope y lo derribó, quedando tendido en la lona varios minutos. Con ese nocaut de un solo golpe se coronó Benítez en las 154 libras y se convirtió además en el primer boxeador desde Henry Armstrong, 43 años antes, en ser monarca mundial en tres pesos. #UnDíaComoHoy, 23 DE MAYO: La historia cuenta que… -En 1954, en Newark, New Jersey, nació Marvin Nathaniel Hagler, el famoso Marvelous Marvin Hagler, uno de los mejores peleadores de su época y de los mejores boxeadores del peso mediano (160 libras) en la historia. Hagler nació en New Jersey, pero se crió y desarrolló en Brockton, Massachussetts, comenzando a pelear de jovencito y debutando como profesional en mayo de 1973 con una victoria por nocaut sobre Terry Ryan, pesando 160 libras (el peso más alto de Hagler en su carrera fue de 163 libras). Con solamente dos derrotas en 49 peleas, Hagler logró su primera oportunidad mundial el 30 de noviembre de 1979 frente al italiano Vito Antuofermo, entonces monarca mediano de la AMB y el CMB, estrenando sus correas. Este pleito fue parte del cartel estelarizado por el duelo entre Wilfred Benítez y Sugar Ray Leonard en el Caesars Palace de Las Vegas y allí Antuofermo y Hagler terminaron empate, aunque casi todos vieron vencedor al estadounidense. Pero 10 meses más tarde, Hagler fue en busca de las correas nuevamente frente al británico Alan Minter, quien le había quitado las mismas a Antuofermo. Allá en Inglaterra, Hagler derrotó por nocaut técnico en tres rounds a Minter para coronarse mundialmente. Este cinturón, Hagler lo mantuvo por casi siete años, defendiéndolo 12 veces ante oponentes de la talla de Antuofermo, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Durán, Juan Domingo Roldán, John Mugabi, y perdiéndolo en una controversial pelea ante Leonard en 1987.
