“It was his way of saying Thank You” CancerCare has received a very special gift, included in the Will of the late, Phil Hewson from Penny Bridge, Near Ulverston, who sadly died aged 61 in August last year. A long-time car enthusiast, when Phil received a terminal cancer diagnosis, he decided that, when the time came, the proceeds from the sale his most-treasured vehicle - a Mercedez-Benz SLC - should be shared between two local charities; CancerCare and St. Mary’s Hospice. Phil’s wife, Lyn, says “I think this was his way of saying thank you to two local organisations that helped him. Yesterday many of our team members, along with their partners and friends, participated in the 12.5-mile Circular Walk on the edges of Welwyn Garden City to raise funds for @isabelhospice. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day – bright and sunny with wonderful sights all around. From Digswell Viaduct and the green fields of Tewin Bury Nature Reserve, to Stanborough Lakes, our very own Lemsford Mill, Brocket Hall and Sherrardspark Wood, we soaked in the beauty. And we certainly put in our steps – between 27,000 to 30,000 to be exact! 🥾 We're pleased to have raised £1,600 for Isabel Hospice... and there's still time to chip in! 🐑🐑🐑Lambing has ended for another year:🐑🐑🐑 Our last ewe has had her lamb, which ends lambing for this season. He is quite a big boy but was delivered without any issues and has just been released into the field with all of the other lambs with their mums. He was born on Sunday night and after a few days being nursed in the barn, he is ready to join the rest of the flock. It has been a fantastic lambing season this year, which began in the last week of March, with 64 lambs born which are now bounding around the meadow. Our lambing staff can finally have a well deserved full night of sleep. Zzzzzzzzz Thank you all so much for supporting our Lambing weekend this year and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025! 🔹️WE DID IT... I DID IT!!🔹️ A group of us decided to do a charity hike for a local charity called The Swallows. The challenge was the Ullswater Way, a 20-mile hike. It was a hot one on Saturday! It was so hot that I had to have an outfit change halfway through. I picked up a few blisters along the way and had to help my knees with tape, knee support and painkillers. But I suppose that's why they call it a challenge 😊💪 It's really important to me to give back where possible. Supporting a local charity is close to my heart, too. Funding can be tough to access, so every extra bit of fundraising helps to support the work they do to help so many people and their families.
