„Art touches, connects and enhances.” PAT Art Lab wants to connect street art with people and create awareness on how everyone can make an impact in their communities. This artwork is a tribute to the honorable efforts of PATRIZIA Foundation to build educational infrastructure for children in need and thus give them the chance to live a better life in their communities. About the art work: In 2012, the PATRIZIA Foundation established a primary school in the Nepalese mountain village of Dhoksan, initially serving primary school. The buildings survived the 2015 earthquake with minimal damage and provided emergency shelter for several families for four months. By 2018, the school expanded to accommodate students up to the eighth grade. Nepal, being one of the world’s poorest countries with a high illiteracy rate among adults, benefits from such educational initiatives aimed at improving future prospects for its younger generations. Austrian and French street artists @janaundjs brought to life the PATRIZIA Foundation’s endeavours in Dhoksan, by depicting the facade of the so called “window house”. This building is made of windows of the houses destroyed by the earthquake which again symbolize the topic of sustainability and reconstruction. The brains behind the creative architecture are @supertecture . The artists are painting together since 2006. The couple creates polychromed stencil murals widely ranging in size. They merge urban landscape or architecture details with portrait, questioning the place of human being in the modern cities. Curated by TDBS, they teamed up with @patartlab to foster new ideas and inspiration for the employees at #PATRIZIA ‘s Hamburg office. Whether artist or businessman, engineer or investor, designer or administrator: we all need the courage to think differently. The discipline to pursue goals. And also the willingness to take risks. He started with graffiti at the age of 15 and graduated from Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg (Germany) with a degree in Design & Illustration. 1010’s artistic practice aims to visualize presence, space, time and everything in between. He creates snapshots of constantly evolving and morphing of shapes, which are often perceived as portals, wholes or caves. 1010 started with graffiti in his teens then due to his education in design, illustration and screen printing he started to create figurative paper cuts on a very reduced color set. Drawn to the intricate details and storytelling potential of illustration, he refined his skillset through diligent practice and experimentation. Ultimately street art became his vehicle of expression and exploration, delving into human psychology, philosophy and perception. 1010’s unique aesthetic includes three-dimensional organic shapes, op-art, gradual color palettes, which result in convincing illusions of spaces. I think that behind the boundaries of race, religion, color, politics and wealth, our global issues are largely manmade. We have a natural gift of being intelligent enough (hopefully lol ) to see that we can be wrong sometimes, learn, adapt and move forward. But it’s getting more and more rare. We tend to find people or institutions that echo what we think is right, and just dig in. This phrase comes from a poem and song I wrote called “What If You’re Wrong?” that points out no matter how right we might think we are about something in a given moment, we could still be proven wrong later. Only the future knows. And this ability to be wrong about something we were 1000% sure we were right about, is what can ultimately connect us. Because at our base level, we are connected. From the framing factory of Darrell Kobza Art Services. An original map of York Harbour ( 1815) which was to become Toronto Harbour and a document wax seal from that period. The wax seal was completely in tact and needed to be mounted to view the front and back so it was decided to construct a plexi mount to both suspend the seal allowing 360 degree views as well keeping the presentation clean. We used five individual pieces of Optium Acrylic, three of which had cut outs matching the shape of the seal. The cut edges were polished for clarity then the decision needed to be made; glue the Optium pieces together or not? If glued, the alignment of the cut out sections could have been matched and less noticeable however there was the probability risk of small air bubbles between the sheets. As this wax seal is an original antique and valuable it was decided that we needed to allow easy access to the seal and insure that no damage would be done to the seal. The five pieces of Optium were not glued which made for an alignment that was slightly off but in terms of preservation and safety this treatment was a better choice. When presenting a rare historical artifact the first consideration is: preservation and protection of that artifact with the least aggressive treatment possible. Aesthetic considerations are secondary or tertiary. We work hand in hand with each client to achieve a presentation that meets all the criteria of preservation, aesthetic beauty and functionality. Many of these treatments are absolutely one of a kind and custom designed, there are no ready made solutions for artifacts only creative thinking and engineering. During March I was away in Mexico enjoying the sun, the sights and the sounds…. Also had a bit of time to create some small 8x10 collages. This is one of them, titled Strength in Loss. I tried keeping these small tubes of paint in a bin but would forget to use them so needed something that put them on display. I came up with this organization rack from a sheet of peg board, hooks and binder clips! It works great. Now I see my colors at a glance and it has made all the difference. Project cost was minimal and takes up little wall space. The one peg board made 2 - 48 x 36 panels. Though you could cut to whatever size suits. @loweshomeimprovement did the cuts for me. And husband with skills attached the 1x2 strips on the back. Last year we started experimenting with some new materials and have made some quick mock-ups. It started when we noticed how our parents have hearing difficulties in certain spatial settings and conditions. Often when you are in big, modern spaces made of concrete and glass you have a problem with the sound bouncing back and forth and acoustics deteriorate once there are several people speaking in the room. So we thought, why not combine two things: art and a practical function, resulting in artworks that can absorb noise. We will continue to work in that direction.
