Cracking couple of days making full use of the tarp. Saturday night was doesn't up on Blackstone Edge with my man @run_ruck_sweat_endure for a much needed proper catch up. We were due for a very wet night and I realised I had forgotten my bivvy poles. However we found a gap between two boulders and rigged up a nice tiny shelter which kept me very cosy indeed. Evening meal of pie, scotch egg and cheesethen bacon and egg butties all from @malcolmmichaelsbutchers was just the ticket. Then nipped home for a quick wash and change before our first bbq in the new home feeding a lovely bunch of friends we have made through @primordialradio . The forecast was for thunder storms so the same tarp that had been my accommodation became a makeshift gazebo. Thankfully the rain held off and we were able to all be together in the garden for some bloody lovely food. This morning I have decided to try wearing Dads boots & then his shorts 🤣. I asked mum if my bum looked big in them 🙊. It’s a calm morning, Dad has had two fish in the night but we have no pictures as we were fast asleep in the motorhome, we leave him to sleep at the side of the lake on his own, Mum & Belle like comfort of the big bed. @coppious won our Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition with this picture. Below is the story behind photo. Where did you take the photo? We were on the Charismatic Wall, above Milford Sound Road. There are two fully established rock-climbing routes and a bunch of half-finished ones. Wild Dykes tops out at a 23. (Wild Dykes is a 453m grade-23 mixed trad climb put up by NZ Alpine Team members Llewellyn Murdoch and Daniel Joll in 2022.) Where’s the bivvy in relation to the climb? The approach to the climb is about an hour up a stream, then you do seven pitches of climbing to get to the start of the main route, the pitch terrace. The bivvy is on the terrace. Where I took the picture is where we got up and had breakfast and I belayed the first pitch, about 500–600m off the valley floor. The route itself is another 17 pitches. We didn’t complete the entire route – we did nine pitches before we called it a day. Why did you call it a day? We weren’t super keen on spending another night on the ledge. We had planned to start climbing around 7am but when the alarm went off it was clagged in and drizzly. Given the later start we would've been pushed to complete the entire climb, and the prospect of better sleep and food back at Homer Hut was too enticing. Who is the climber in the image? That’s my mate, Ian Dorko. Ian’s a very rugged individual, the perfect partner for this. We’re both from Maine, but we met in Salt Lake City when we were working for Black Diamond. I’ve been climbing with him since 2012. We’ve had some incredible trips over the years and this one was definitely up there. What was the protection like for the bivvy? Ian rigged up a bit of a barrier and some cordelette to keep himself from rolling off, but other than that he’s not clipped into anything. The blue sleeping bag to the left of the picture is where I was sleeping, and I wore a harness and clipped into the rope you can see running along the cliff. Did you get any sleep? I slept alright, it’s not the worst bivvy I’ve slept on. Are you planning to give the route another go? Not this season. I’d love to give it another crack, but I’m already dreaming of snow.

A recent six-fish hit for Bobby from a recent trip out in his Tempest RS Brolly. Bobby told us: "After arriving to find the lake busy, I slotted into pretty much the only peg left. Fortunately it was a peg I knew well, so I rolled the dice and opted for a bait-and-wait approach, heavily baiting an area where gravel met light silt. Overnight bivvy on An Teallach 20th - 21st May. Some images out of the proper camera. Fabulous overnight bivvy on the finest mountain on the planet. I set off from Dundonnell at 6pm yesterday evening, arriving at 9pm on Bidein A' Ghlas Tuill summit, my home for the night. Bivvying can be as luxurious or basic depending on your outlook and needs. On this trip my cameras were more important than hot food, a sleeping bag, stove and coffee! Only gear was a bivvy bag, an extra warm layer & 1 pair extra socks ( not required). Stunning night, a full moon rising above An Teallach's Corrag Buidhe pinnacles. Tuesday morning I was up at 3.30am and the light on the horizon was already a beautiful orange glow. After plenty of photographing I set off over Sgurr Fiona & the Corrag Buidhe pinnacles in glorious light and not a soul on the hill.
