Queen Anne's Lace, also known as wild carrot, is often surrounded by intriguing folklore. One of the most popular tales involves Queen Anne of England, who was an accomplished lacemaker. According to the legend, Queen Anne was challenged to create a piece of lace as beautiful as the flower. While she was working on her lace, she pricked her finger with the needle, and a single drop of blood fell onto the lace, creating a small red spot. This is mirrored in the flower itself, which sometimes has a tiny red or dark purple floret in the centre, representing the drop of blood. This story gives the flower its common name and adds an element of historical charm, linking the delicate beauty of the flower to the artistry and grace of Queen Anne's lacework. This design is inspired by this story, using white Queen Anne's Lace with red plum blossom. Is there a vernacular expression of love? None of that butterflies-in-your-stomach, walking-on-air cliché - how does love find expression in the heat of an Indian summer? The answer is mangoes. As Kālīdāsa tells us, the mere whiff of a mango blossom excites young lovers to distraction, and brings weary travellers who rest in its shade to uncontrollable tears for missing the sweethearts they’ve left behind. In literature classical and contemporary, the swelling of fragrant fruit has been likened to bodies, breasts, and more. Then there’s the licking of mango chutney (lit. “that which is licked”) off of fingers, the squeezing of pulp, the sucking of flesh - you get the idea. Then there’s a different kind of love. The love that Pārvati felt underneath the mango tree on the banks of the Vegavati river as she embraced the lingam she had made to protect it from the rising waters. There Śiva manifests as Ekambareesvar “Lord of the Mango Tree”, but the Tamil poets know Him better, and call him Tazhuva kuzhainthaar, “He who melted in Her embrace”. They marry with the mango tree as witness, and so we adorn our wedding mandapas with mango leaves. Then the Jātakas tell us of Āmrapālī the “tender of mangoes”, a courtesan of Vaiśālī who flaunts social hierarchies and hosts the Buddha in her mango-orchard palace. By the end of the meal, she has given her orchard, her wealth, and herself to her Master. And then there are the mangoes of Karaikkal Ammaiyar of incomparable sweetness, which she gave away as swiftly as she did her physical perfection out of love for her Lord. Ik zie deze foto, en dan kijk ik weer uit naar het zonnetje, die warmte en een overload aan veldbloemen! Net zoals jullie waarschijnlijk ook.. Maar de laatste weken besef ik weer maar al te goed hoe belangrijk je gezondheid is. Iedereen met kindjes weet dat de virusjes regelmatig het hele gezin rondgaan. Maar op een bepaald moment word je dan plots ziek en blijkt het deze keer niet gewoon om een verkoudheidje te gaan maar een goeie griep met een longontsteking erbovenop en nog co-infecties erbij. Compleet uitgeschakeld. Ondertussen lig ik al 4 weken in bed. Ik mis mijn werk, gezin, beweging, uitstapjes en mijn fiets enorm hard. Aangezien ik nu amper tot aan de school van de kiddos geraak, lijkt dit ook allemaal nog zo ver weg. Ik vind het eng om te zien hoe mijn lijf wordt aangevallen en je volledig onderuit gehaald wordt. Zonder dat je iets van controle hebt. Als dit dan weken blijft duren begin je je toch wel zorgen te maken. Ik was er in januari volop aan het invliegen met nieuwe plannen voor 2024. Want Ik vind een frisse start belangrijk om up to date te zijn, vlot te kunnen werken en geen achterstand te hebben. Maar wanneer mijn lijf er klaar voor is zal het eerst weer inhalen zijn. Iedereen die nog wacht op een mailtje met vragen en bestellingen of offerte van mij, ik doe m'n best om er zo snel mogelijk weer te zijn maar momenteel lukt het nog niet. Been patiently waiting to post this in order not to ruin the surprise for one of my couples. Their friends decided to surprise them with a wedding cake to match their flowers and I was happy to help. Cake hoop made from dried flowers lovingly arranged onto a rustic wire. This can be then placed around the edge of the cake. I recommend using a ribbon, greaseproof paper or as I have here, clear food safe plastic surround (this came with the prop cake I've used here) to ensure the flowers and the cake don't make contact. Of course the cake had to be eaten afterwards, didn't want it to go bad😉 Cake hoops can be made to match any bouquet. This one matches the Paradise Garden collection.
