Every end is a beginning.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a farm-child with a love of green things nature has always been my most generous teacher. Lessons of joy, but also of pain (was anyone else emotionally devastated by lion-gazelle documentaries as a child?). And yet so much of what I see in people is a hierarchy in which there are losers and winners (Whose needs are more important? Whose hunger matters more?). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nature must look at us and scoff. MORE is a stupid notion when the goal is an ecosystem, a balance, a relationship that acknowledges what we all need, what we all contribute, and how we all fit. “I’m the most important thing in the garden,” the worm says haughtily. A butterfly scoffs in derision. “Most Important,” it grumbles as it shifts to a new flower. “What absolute rubbish”). Nature has taught me many things - grief and hope, nourishment and need. But most of all she has taught me to see the world beyond myself - to place connection as the anchor for my relationships with the world around me. (What has nature taught you my love?) Every free moment was spent wandering the flowers. My new #selfportrait series titled “La Solitude”, shot in Étretat, Normandie ✨ #veevidly Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it’s not because they enjoy solitude. It’s because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them — Jodi Picoult I got the idea for this shoot from that chair: it felt like someone should’ve been sitting there but wasn’t. Being an artist and turning your art into your own paying job is very difficult and feels quite lonely sometimes, with the ever changing schedules, unregulated business hours, the I-have-to-make-it-work mentality and all the traveling alone. In flower language, irises simbolise strength, courage and admiration and are believed to represent a strong relationship. In these photos, the irises I’m holding represent both my relationship with my husband, who’s been my number one supporter since day one (admiration), and my relationship or dare I say constant battle with my inner self (courage). Sunshine walks with my best girl 🐾🌿☀️ On Monday it was National Rescue Dog Day, something I’m obviously a big supporter of. We adopted Pearl almost 5 years ago now and it was the best decision we ever made. She’s been with me through years of illness and struggle and I honestly don’t know what I’d have done without her. There are so many greyhounds available for adoption so if you’re looking for a dog I’d really recommend chatting with @greyhoundtrust_uk . Greyhounds are sweet natured, gentle, sleepy and hilarious. They will make you laugh, they will cuddle you when you cry and they will most certainly steal all the comfy spaces in your house. They have a hard start to life, racing for a living, sleeping in kennels, not even given a proper name. You can give them a wonderful retirement and in turn, they will love you and keep you company always. Wandering wild 🌿 I took these photos yesterday on a spontaneous solo hike. It was special because I didn’t look at the map a single time - I just wandered off, let my intuition guide me and I ended up exactly where I wanted to, three hours later. I enjoyed seeing foxgloves in bloom which to me is a sign of the Lake District summer. I also made my first (mini) sauna whisk of this year from young birch and oak twigs. I walked past sheep, tarns, gorgeous houses with fabulous views of the fells, stepped into many puddles, thought about the meaning of life, came up with new ideas for photos, and generally had a brilliant time. I keep thinking of organising something like this - a walk in a scenic spot with like minded creative + nature loving souls, but so far it’s just an idea. La Gurmanda critica: Okonomi San -- @okonomi.san Taberna japo muy pintona para disfrutar de una comida o cena desenfadada y probar unas muy buenas okonimiyakis. Un producto algo más desconocido de la gastronomia japonesa. -Takuwan - Nabo Daikon. Muy bueno, aunque poca cantidad para su calidas-precio. -Setas japonesas, nama koki y yema. La cremosidad de la yema con las setas, hacen un bocado que sabe a gloria. -Tofu neri ume. No nos terminó de convencer, falto de sabor, aunque la salsa de ciruela estaba rica. -Udon Morro Fino. Hueva picante de abadejo, dados de mantequilla, alga nori, cebolleta, yema y por supuesto los udon. Correcto, pero demasiada cantidad de pasta para los aderezos que le acompañan. - Okonomiyaki kimuchi. El plato mas top. Muy equilibrada de sabor sin caer en la pesadez de las salsas, las cuales puedes añadir al gusto. Echamos en falta quizás algo más de picante por el kimchi. Si buscas ampliar tu cultura gastro y y probar otro pedazo de Japón este es muy buen lugar.
