FOTOGRAFISKA FEATURES: CARLA CHAN Berlin-based photographer and multimedia artists Carla Chan (@carlac____) manipulates light, color and space to draw the viewer into a world that exists somewhere between dreams and reality. The realms of nature and technology seem to be at odds in our modern world, but Carla uses soft flushes of light, computer-generated amorphous shapes and stark monochromatic images to mimic ice, snow, rock, sunlight, and trees. Bringing all these aspects of Carla's artistic practice together into one whole, The Fading Space of Dawn is a series of photographs that take inspiration from the cyclical nature of daylight. AAA is so thrilled to see the evolution of Carla Chan's artistic practice since winning the TOY Berlin Masters Award (@berlinmastersfoundation) in 2017. Most recently Chan presented an installation entitled "Fading Space of Dawn" at Art Basel (@artbasel) in Hong Kong and Frieze, New York (@friezeofficial) that was the result of a residency in Switzerland supported by La Prairie (@laprairie). This media art exhibition embodies the unseen transformation in nature through dramatised digital representations. With augmented reality as well as large-scale video installations, this new series of works blends physical and digital materials together into a hybrid form of an immersive virtual landscape. The fusion of digital apparatus in the artworks signifies the otherwise overlooked phenomena in natural formations by manipulating our perception of time, through which the exhibition offers new perspectives on our relationship with nature.
