He travelled south to Yarripilangu and approached a group of ‘karnta’ (women) that were sitting down in a circle there. He wanted to woo a Nungarrayi woman named Yurlkurinyi who was the wrong skin for him. We did it!! 🙌🏼😁 Dylan and I completed the 25k West Macs Monster this past weekend!! ⛰️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️ Just when I thought we couldn’t experience any more “firsts” here in Australia…we sign up to compete in our longest, and first ever, trail run through the mountain ranges! To say it was challenging, is an understatement! (especially not having trained for it at all)! 🤪 It took us about 4.5 hours to complete it. We ran, walked, climbed, laughed, talked, whined, complained😆, jogged, ran, walked some more, etc …but most importantly, we took in some amazing Australian outback scenery one last time! 🇦🇺🤩 My heart is happy we did it… my feet/toes, not so much. Haha We’d also like to thank our sweet & amazing friends Carol & James for watching our kids during the day and cheering us on along the way!! Yesterday we decided to make it a #sunday as we needed a #lazyday 🙂 In the afternoon we headed off to the #royalflyingdoctorsmuseum in #alicesprings which was a really fun & interactive place to learn about what the #flyingdoctorsaustralia do on a daily basis. It was very interesting to learn all about it and the different roles to run this amazing service that is needed in our #rural & #remote parts of #australia The entrance fee is $22 we person and well worth a look if you are in Alice Springs 🙂 If you have a couple of spare dollars and looking for a worthy cause to put it towards, then this service will be it. "We loved the fact that this was a small group tour. Our guide, Ben, was awesome. It was raining & cold & we thought about cancelling as there wasn't going to be a glorious sunset to view. However, Ben was prepared for anything & offered an alternative tour. Turns out the alternative was just as dazzling, if not better. We got to see the rock up close and witness waterfalls coming off Uluru - something only a small number of visitors get to see. Our small group finished with a glass of bubbly with Uluru in the background. Ben's knowledge of Uluru, local indigenous culture & the surrounding area was pretty impressive. Brayden played & Dylan coached their very last basketball game here in Alice Springs 😞 …and they went out with a win, so that was nice! 🙌🏼 😁 It has been a true joy for my family to be a part of the Alice Springs Basketball Association for the past 3 years & especially be a part of the Wallabies basketball family. 💙🏀❤️ We’ve made some great friends & met some amazing ppl in all the time we spent in that basketball stadium. You all will truly be missed.😢 Looking back…I am extremely proud of B and how far he’s come as a player…and also proud of Dylan for stepping up as a parent coach those years ago. Dylan has always given those kids everything he had to make sure they not only performed well but also just loved & enjoyed playing the game of basketball. ERLDUNDA RESORT - Roadhouse (Catching up on posts) - note photo from the internet - this was our room configuration, same beds, same towels 🤣 slightly more modern doonas 🤣 1 night stay on the way up before Alice Springs and then another overnight stay before Oodnadatta Cost: $218 each night Note: Can't drink the water here We had a few conversations about this place after we stayed here. The room was perfectly fine. All we needed to rest our heads etc. However, realistically, if you got up early enough on the way up, we could have probably travelled through to Alice or Uluru if that's where you're headed. It is already such a long day in the car, so we did appreciate breaking it up. Certainly needed on the way back, before hitting the Oodnadatta. As for being a Coeliac, they have heaps of sweet options but no real food/meal options bar a salad. You can make it work or Uluru has heaps of pre-made salads to stock the fridge. The rest of the family enjoyed a traditional pub meal of pizzas and parmas with no complaints. Water: 4 bottles are supplied - honestly, I couldn't give a shit about the cost of bottles. I'll drop 7 bucks on a coffee. This much for a bottle 1.25 was decent if you ask me. Most places did a 3 x 1.25 for $11-$12. A lot of people said stock up on water because it was expensive 🤷♀️ to ud......we were just like mmmehhh we need it, whatever. Downfall here: No breaks on the beds 🤣 you hopped in bed and nearly rolled out the doors, that was annoying!! Basically, zero coverage/internet (again, not a big deal). The bathrooms had big windows that were obviously always open, the septic smell in the morning was a bit on the nose just in the bathroom. It's definitely worth the stop, even if you're just taking a photo as it's the dead centre. As for a night stay, it's 50/50 on whether you're ready to chuck the kids in the bin I guess. Lately, staff at Centre Farm’s Alekarenge Work Experience Pilot Project have been planting thousands of garlic cloves to prepare for harvest in September. Local workers have developed and maintained the farm since 2020, engaging community members in on-the-job horticultural training and employment activities. Inclusive and regular local youth programs have the capacity to create a bunch of opportunities for young people. These include leadership, with opportunities to umpire, direct films, cook and dish up meals to large groups, informing bushtrips, and often providing valuable cross cultural information (and language teachers!) for non-local youth workers. Youth programs are learning spaces which are almost always embraced by young people who struggle with school in one way or another, and we see they are part of preparing young people for future employment. The course supports students to learn more about themselves and explore their aspirations and future 📚 👖 Students Olivia & Avaline, were able to coordinate a massive haul of winter supplies for women and children who access @cawls_nt services 👕 Our team were so incredibly grateful for the support and kindness shown by the students for arranging this donation drive. If you don't want to stay at the FREE camp at Agnes Creek, you can drive an extra 40 minutes to the Northern Territory border. There is room out the back on the bitumen. There are two drop toilets, there too. On our way to Uluru, we topped up our tanks at Curtin Springs. $3.03 for 91 and Diesel was $3.16. You can also free camp at Curtin Springs and drive into Uluru.
