I had a great coffee in an unfamiliar place and it work me up from a bit of a slog. We’ve gotten into the habit of only posting once a month and I vowed a long time ago that I’d never be the person that re-introduces themselves after a hiatus. “Hey guys, haven’t posted in a while….” Is how it usually goes but not here, not now. Because once you do that, it’s bound to happen again….and again…and so the cycle goes. That’s the thing about falling into a “rut” for lack of a better term. The rut is made deeper as you continue plodding along and as great as it is to tell yourself you just need to put one foot in front of another to “make it through” you find yourself jumping up for a peek outside the rut every now and again telling everyone “I know it’s been a while, but I’m still here.” As much as we have inside of us, sometimes it takes something from the outside to steer our best intentions towards the right destination. Something that fills your heart and shakes your soul a little bit. Make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, shake off a shiver and look around because hell…you only get to do this once. Don’t remind people you’re here. Do you remember that promise you made to yourself? The money you’d save. The weight you’d lose. The good you’d do. The gratitude you’d focus on. You had the best of intentions…and then something happened - life, love, loss, work, stress, chaos and all the other things that inject caution even though we try to wrap our beautiful brains around still holding onto that goodness that we try to squeeze out of the moments. There’s always time to do that thing and keep those promises because the best intentions aren’t the ones that lead to hell (those are good intentions). Best Intentions are what keep you going even when you fail miserably. You can get up, walk away and as the sting fades you know you gave it every fiber of what you could muster. It’s the best intentions that show the world who you are, what you’re doing and why you’re doing it and it’s never perfect because it’s so innately tied to you and you’re not perfect but you are the most perfect version of you even when you’re changing and growing under the pressure of all that junk we wrote about 12 lines above. We named CCe’s first coffee Best Intentions because this whole thing was about trying to bring something different to the community. I knew nothing when I started. I might know even less now, but it’s those best intentions we carry keep us going on this daily quest to find good and carve our place in the world. The original dome of the Massachusetts state house was made of wood…and it leaked. In 1802, it was covered with copper from the Revere Copper Company which opened in Canton just a year earlier in 1801. (@revereheritagesite kindly fact check us if we’re off….) We affectionately refer to this mug as our “copper top” mug. The icon on the back pays homage to one of many landmarks in and around New England that are rooted in Canton. We will continue to weave these into our merch and our art in coming seasons…there are so many (bells, cannons, hats, horses, ships…all of them) We love the slate-like finish on the mug. It matches the roof of our Junction building and the handle gives ample room for a full hand mug grab or a 3 finger wrap. “Mug feel” is a thing and this one has it. We’re stocked up for you. We won’t be raising our prices in the immediate future. You all have had enough to deal with these past two years…or three…or hell even last week. Life is hard. I filled up my gas tank the other day and almost threw up…and I have a terrible throw up face. Yes, we have some difficult times ahead…none of us have really ever lived through inflation the way we’re seeing it now. The last thing you need is your coffee to hit you that way too. We’d rather see you hold onto that little extra and put it towards yourself, your loved ones, a worthy cause, or that dreaded gas tank. We can’t promise this position forever and it may hurt us a little but pain can be a good thing every now and again. If you’ve fallen on hard times and can’t afford great coffee, shoot us a note. Are we missing the point on failure? T.S. Eliot wrote that "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." We've paraphrased that quote once or twice here. It's a favorite for sure and it implies that effort to the point of failure will provide context for true capacity. That's true, but you have to ask yourself, "Does it end there?" Failure is only valuable if you get back up and try to re-draw your line. We wouldn't have artists or athletes or parents or teachers or coaches or society as a whole without the constant re-drawing of those self-imposed lines.
