Progress post on my journey of mastering muscle ups and handstands: - 1st is a handstand video made April 18, 2023 - 2nd is a handstand video made May 17, 2024 Content but not satisfied. A lot more work to do. Next goal is to hold the handstand longer and without the need to walk around trying to find the balance. -3rd is a somersault drill I did to feel more comfortable falling out of a handstand -4th is the drill that helped me progress better than any other handstand drill. I alternate which foot is touching the wall, while trying to keep both feet off the wall as long as possible during the transition. -5th is an older clip of my muscle ups created on March 18th, 2024 -6th is a more recent clip made April 19, 2024 Feel like I should be better at these by now. Positive note, more recently have been able to get up without the “chicken winging”, as I call it. Still at 2 body weight reps, but smoother all the way through. - 7th is a drill I used to develop the technique and strength for the transition between the pull and push - 8th is banded muscle up. 5 years ago this little cinnamon roll, sweet potato was born. 9 weeks later, after she survived parvo (2 litter mates died), we adopted her from @itsthepits dog rescue. She quickly became too comfortable in the Janopack, stole our hearts and has been a pain in the ass ever since. Not a day goes by where I don’t have to say NO or STOP, but not a day goes by where I don’t want her hugs and kisses. In order to finish the “Triple Crown” he had to create a route with a certain amount of elevation - and this is where the Wolfpack 200 was created. This crew, among other friends, gathered to support Hector with pacing, crewing, and cheering him on. Here we are again years later, encouraging our friend at the Cocodona 250. The last four days were spent exploring Atlanta, Georgia with my bestie @hypnobydani . Friday we had happy hour in Buckhead, spent time with the kiddos who are so grown up now 😭 and played with puppies. Saturday was a day filled with wine tasting at Montaluce Winery, Kaya Vineyard and Wolf Mountain, ending with tai dinner with the whole family. Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day with an amazing hike to see the Chattahochee Falls and the Tallulah Gorge, champagne, home cooked dinner, and a night stroll along the Atlanta Beltline that included local beers. A trip to the south wouldn’t be complete without having grits for breakfast on Monday, a quick drive along Lake Lanier before heading back to the airport. Day 2 of Cocodona 250. After not many hours of sleep, I headed to the Jerome AS to join the camera crew working the livestream. So much fun filming the top runners (I missed Jeff because he was too darn fast!), chilling with all the crew teams and eating the best veggie tacos. Then I headed to Iron King where I picked up @callievinsonn and took her overnight 18 miles up to Mingus Mountain. She is crushing it folks! You aren’t a failure … So you got in a good rhythm with daily exercise. You do well for a while, you FEEL GOOD and your daily walks, morning stretch and weekly lifts are creating positive changes. . And then your period arrives, or your in-laws come to visit, your kids get Covid, or you get in a funk or things just change… …Then “all of a sudden” it’s been weeks since your last focused workout and you feel like you’re “back at square one” . So you reflect on your past - the repeating pattern of on-again/off-again and you tell yourself… “I’m not consistent” . And you follow coaches who tell you that if you can’t be consistent, you’ll never be successful because consistency is key! 🔑 . So right about now you’re probably feeling like 💩 or maybe you fall into a “it doesn’t matter mindset” so you go ahead and binge eat or stop wearing your FitBit ❌Can I help you Re-frame this?? For all the times you’ve “fallen off the wagon” - you also got back ON the wagon just AS MANY TIMES 🤯 . Every single time you stopped, you started again. 👆🏼 And that, my friend, is NOT something to be ashamed of…or overlooked 👏🏼It’s a testament to your perseverance. It’s evidence that you ALWAYS go back to supporting your body and health goals no matter what! . It’s an indication that you are DEDICATED, STUBBORN and PASSIONATE about this behavior. . You don’t “always quit” — in fact, it the opposite… You #CommitDontQuit . If you want to become more consistent, yes, there are skills you can learn and things we can do. Another day full of adventures with my roommate @spudboy_75 . We played tourist and walked the famous Duval Street, saw the Ernest Hemingway House, Truman White House, and stood at the Southernmost Point in the continental US. We hydrated with beer from a local brewery, hit our sweet tooth with root beer floats and ate way too many chips. I rode a Seadoo for my first time, where we went through both the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, with a swim on the sandbar in the warmest and clearest water! This crew right here. They are now on day 8 of pacing and crewing @runcandicerun on her AZT 800 mile FKT attempt. I joined them on the first day, April 8th, and it was nonstop 24/7. So much goes on behind the scenes for a project like this, and I am so thankful for the experience. Running errands in town to grab food and supplies, driving pacers and pacer vehicles, airport pickups and drop offs, cooking food, setting up and breaking down aid stations, sleeping in the back of trucks or in tents, going days without a shower, eating backpacking food and bars, problem solving, taking care of Candice during highs and lows, and pacing miles in all weather and times of the day and night. Candice is almost at mile 400 and continues to move at a solid pace. 16ish miles around #cuyamaca this morning with @peachpiration 🏃♀️. While I had moments of struggle today (could feel yesterday's 10 miles) on some of the climbs and trying to get around/through mud and water on the trail - overall it was a great running day. So grateful for no rain! @san_diego_100 was having a training run today and we didn't need the full 20 miles on the agenda as we're both tapering for Leona Divide 50/50 next weekend. We decided to park at the finish and run the first 12 miles of the SD 100 course with a little extra added. One of our additions was the little extra to #stonewallpeak - it was a perfect day for it. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate my actual birthday this year than running on and experiencing the beauty of the Arizona Trail. When @runcandicerun reached out to me about pacing and crewing her for the AZT 800 FKT attempt, I was so honored and excited to take the “job.” Seeing someone work so hard for a goal in training and logistics (whoa talk about logistics) and going through highs and lows to keep pushing on, is absolutely incredible. The day was full of crew duties, after only a few hours of sleep, a couple hours on the computer, then a beautiful sunset run. The pacer switch was a ride on a 4-wheeler, more crew duties, and a PB and honey sandwich with plantain chips dinner. (Don’t worry I still got my Poptarts 🤪). Day 1 crewing and pacing for @runcandicerun as she attempts the new FKT for the 800 miler AZ Trail. 3am wake up call to catch an early flight to Tucson, followed by driving and running errands. Picked up Candice at mile 54 and ran the last 18 miles with her through the night. Slept in the passenger seat of a truck, then up again at 4am for Day 2! Candice is so strong and moving fast. Nutrition and hydration are going well. Whew... tonight's run felt like a beat down. Hill repeats felt super hard and I didn't feel like I did very well. I was supposed to pick a hill with 8-11% grade hill but I probably should have chosen one closer to 8% rather than 11 🤷♀️. Then the 5 miles after that was a slog. Oh well - I tried. Some runs just don't leave you feeling amazing and fill you with doubt - but that's all part of the process, right? 10 miles done. At least some of the sights were nice. Happy Monday! This last week has been ROUGH with work. So many exciting things happening, most importantly the Professor life at @miracostacollege. Today is the first day of my late start class “Personal Selling.” In the fall I was asked to rewrite the entire course to make it ZCT (Zero Cost Textbook). It’s been a project the last few months, but well worth it to help so many students! Do you remember how much money you spent on college textbooks? I easily spent $500 each semester while attending @ucsandiego during my undergrad. I could have really used classes like this while I ate oatmeal and cereal for almost every meal because I couldn’t afford food. Colleges like MiraCosta care 100% more about their students than UC schools or private schools like @uofsandiego. (Don’t get me started on this one). So no long runs last week due to time constraints, but I was able to get in 5 CrossFit workouts. Hoping to get a long run or two in this week! Happy Monday hard chargers! Last week I completed the #75hard and let me tell you that first Pop Tart tasted delicious! Although I have attempted this mental challenge multiple times, this is only the second time I have actually completed it. Days at home are pretty easy and I don’t mind running outside in all types of weather. It’s the travel days that are exhausting. There were times I would walk a 5k in the airport during layovers, or on the treadmill late at night in my hotel. Some days I only had protein shakes and bars if nothing else was available. Thank goodness for NA @bestdaybrewing and @kodiakcakes power oatmeal and snacks. Just signed up for my first 24-hour loop trail race - the @ersevents Southbay 24 Hour! The course will feature a 1.3-mile loop course with a combination of trail, grass and bike path. The current record is 81 laps for Male and 53 laps for Female. The @ultrabuds and @swchbak will have a collab tent setup and I’m looking for a Crew Chief and pacers to join me.
