Do you remember this piece I casted last year in February 2022? If not check out my posts from that date. The piece from that days have not been moved or anything done whatsoverer. Needed to focus on other things and gather funds for a TIG welder to weld the head which I accidently hammered out when I was breaking the ceramic shell after casting. Well. It still looks like crap so I am still learning how to weld it and fill it properly. But I got to tell ya - the learning curve in TIG welding Aluminum is rough. It is really difficult to weld - especially when you are used to welding black steel using other methods of welding. Maiden of Death in #formfutura #stonefil filament is ready. It has beed filled with sand, leqd shots and aluminium shots. Also I dod experiment to fill it also with shredded waste filament. All has been covered with wpoxy resin filling. The weight came out pretty nice especialy that I used approx 220grams of StoneFil filament. Now I need to clean it up and make a base for it in wood filled filament. Another day and another 3d print. This time I am making Maiden of Death by artist Bugman_140. The project file is free and available at #printables. Filaments I am using are made by #formfutura. The „Maiden” is made in #stonefil in concrete color. Tha base will be done also in #formfutura #easywood filament. So the whole project will have the stone feel and wood feel. The base will also have wood smell. The „maiden” is also filled with lead shots, aluminum shots, sand and shredded pla leftovers (the pla are waste from my failed prints and that is how I reuse it). All is filled with epoxy resin. So it would have also the proper weight. Gargoyle 3d print in #formfutura #stonefil filament is done. I already cleaned it up and this is how it looks. On the last photo you can see the weight of it. Filament weight used was 123grams and the weight now is 349grams. Total weight gain using lead shots and epoxy resin gave approx 200% more weight to the print. The print will have matte finish and a stone look because StoneFil filament has 50% stone powder in its composition. Beside the look. I want to get also the feel of a stone. Continuation of "tidying up" the workshop. The shelves finally arrived. A few things are already "sitting" on them, although after the fact I began to wonder if the placement of things is appropriate. There will probably be more changes, but the floor is already slightly vaccuummed. The current state of cleaning work in the workshop. Mounting strips for the Kenovo System suspension system attached to the wall. Vertical rails are also mounted, which are hung without additional tools on mounting strips (horizontal black in the photos). Brackets for wire shelves are also mounted on the vertical rails. There will be plenty of space on the shelves. I planned 5 shelves, each of which is about 2 meters long and 38 cm deep. A place without shelves is planned for suitable hooks for the tool and foundry equipment. More info coming soon. On the photos you can see 3d printed boxes for small parts like screews, nuts, nails etc. The boxes can be pronted in dimentions needed, has got a litte shelf on which tou can grab the box with needed part and take it with you. Terminator T800 head cast went amazing. But there is slight problem. When I was breaking the shell with the hammer (like I always do) the riser broke through the whole wall and there is a hole in his head 🤦🏻♂️. The problem is heating elements in my electric burnout/preheat kiln did break and I needed to replace all 4 of them (electric shortage from the electric company caused all 4 to break at the same time 😮). Another fail video. Just for fun for you guys. And still its another video that shows that you need protection and precautions - this time steel bucket just helped not to spill all the aluminium all over my pavement which could cause the snow to melt and in the end a steam explosion probably. I tried to cast Death Trooper again but it was my first time that I preperade a hollowed model. The walls of the pattern were about 5mm thick - should be enough for casting and flow of molten metal. Well, for this it were but.... ....for the pressure of rising hot metal it was not. See how the shell did fill nicely but in the end the shell cracked and almost all of the aluminium got out. When I noticed it I tried to stop the flow with my cold rod, which...well was a success just to stop the flow. I ran out of aluminium to finish the cast so it is a failure - well probably not last 😂 One thing still suprise shell had no crack when it was preheated before casting. Well the shell was cracked after PLA burnout but it was patched wery stron with fiberglass and couple of layers of slurry. Why it did crack so bad and not in the place it cracked during burnout 🤔. Here is the outcome of todays pour in #nordicgold. The horse looks ok with a small defect (hole in the middle of legs 😆) but one problem is with the idol from #indianajones. Aries starts to look how it should be. Progress after cutting off the risers, feeders, sprues and vents. After a lot of sand blasting (to take out leftovers of the shell) and grinding the places where all the vents and sprues were attached. Next step is to grind the whole brass figure to remove all left defects and prepare it for the precise grinding, maybe even some polishing. Taking out the filled and already frozen cast out of the sand (it prevents from doing a real mess when the shell would crack during the pour). Still very hot ~280-300*C and it is after 3 hours after the pour. Can’t wait till I can check if it filled nicely and the horns are fully filled. Btw. Here is the pour. The shell is taken out after being preheated to 900*C for 3hrs. Look how it still glows red. And the best part. Almost run out of brass. It was just enought. Whole crucible poured 👌😉 #dragonatelier #brasscasting #suspendaslurry #ceramicshell #brass
Brass is fully molten and almost ready to pour. Impurities are being skimmed off and after that Borax is being added for it to push out the other impurities and make the brass more fluid. After adding borax gentle stir is needed. #dragonatelier #brasscasting #devilforge

Burnout and victrification of yesterdays shell came out ok. Tiny cracks but they will fill when poured without any repairs - not a problem. #dragonatelier #suspendaslurry #ceramicshell
After about an hour ramping up the temperature from 250*C range to 500*C range the burnout is about to end and be completed. Temperature of 500*C is the 1st stage of shell victrification.
