. MAT 자격 수여식이 어제였네요. 💪 Functional Anatomy 101: Brachialis 💪 Did you know the brachialis muscle packs more strength than the biceps brachii and coracobrachialis? Yup, you read that right! To target the brachialis, keep your forearm in pronation since the biceps brachii also acts as a supinator. The brachialis can get injured from repetitive forceful contractions or when your arm is hyperextended. Climbers often experience this due to the pronation of the hand and the extended start position. Workouts with lots of pull-ups, curls, and rope climbing can also lead to brachialis pain. A strain to the brachialis tendon can cause a lack of elbow extension due to painful end-range stretching of the tendon. Limiti fisici, mentali, emozionali e spirituali.  Il limite ci contiene, ci definisce, a volte ci ostacola, a volte se superato ci rende migliori, altre superarlo potrebbe non essere una grande idea. Ognunə di noi ha il proprio personalissimo rapporto con il limite: innato, appreso, sociale, culturale, imposto o scelto. Ci sono dei limiti che vanno accolti, dei limiti che vanno compresi, limiti che non hanno senso di esistere, limiti ingiusti contro cui lottare, limiti invalicabili da difendere.  Potremmo continuare a fare liste come Salvini o Jovanotti, MA INVECE CI FERMIAMO.  Vogliamo però proporvi una lettura di qualcosa che sentiamo spessissimo dire: esci dalla tua zona di confort (classica frase tratta dal reel di un nomade digitale maschiobiancociset™). E se invece che doverci catapultare fuori da quest’ipotetica zona di confort si lavorasse per espanderla? For yoga teachers learning anatomy can look like learning where muscles originate and insert and their action. Often though, the anatomy isn’t effectively applied and the result is cues that don’t make sense like: In warrior 1, the cue to “square your hips to the front of the room”. In half pigeon, the cue to “flex your foot to protect your knee” When a student complains of being tight, recommending yoga to “stretch them out” or encouraging people generically to be more flexible. These are a few cues and concepts that are perpetuated in yoga that are inaccurate, they can make poses inaccessible and could frustrate or even cause discomfort or pain to your student. The anatomy module at We Be Yoga School this Sunday, May 26 from 10-4 is going to help you understand anatomy from a functional stand point. How the body works as it moves and will bring together the role the nervous system plays. Knowing muscle insertion and origin is helpful, but it’s more impactful for us to understand its function in movement. 💪 Functional Anatomy 101: PCL aka Posterior Cruciate Ligament 💪 The PCL is one of the two crucial ligaments in your knee. It plays a major role in stabilizing the knee by keeping the tibia from sliding around like a slippery salmon in relation to your femur. Additionally, it prevents hyperextension and limits internal rotation, adduction, and abduction at the knee joint. Twice as thick as the ACL, the PCL is much stronger, resulting in fewer injuries compared to the ACL. This is why PCL injuries are less common. Unfortunately, the PCL doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves. Most of the focus tends to be on ACL and MCL injuries. 💪 Functional Anatomy 101: Sternocleidomastoid aka SCM 💪 The SCM, a powerful neck muscle, boasts a fascinating origin and insertion. Beginning at the collarbone's central portion, it extends upward to attach to the mastoid process near the ear and the base of the skull, spanning the entire length of the neck. This versatile muscle wears multiple hats: it can rotate the head to the opposite side, flex the neck, and extend the head. Acting together, it flexes the neck while extending the head. When flying solo, it rotates the head to the opposite side and slightly tilts it to the same side. But that's not all! The SCM teams up with the scalene muscles during forced inhalation, lifting the sternum and aiding in deep breathing. From an exercise standpoint, the SCM's role in maintaining proper head posture is paramount. Why is learning and continuing education so important? ✦ Things change and there are always new developments. New research comes out all the time. What I was teaching last year is different from what I’m teaching today. I’ve learned more, questioned my methods and adapted to new best practices. I always hold myself accountable to be the best of my ability. ✦ Our mind gets filled up with what is really current, present and close to us. As time goes on, sometimes this means we forget certain things. A refresh of what we know goes a long way. ✦ We tend to get bored of things and move on. When this happens, we can lose motivation and inspiration. We can sometimes feel like we’re stuck in our routines doing the same old thing. We run out of ideas. Learning helps with this. When we learn new things we can get excited again. We can introduce new topics and methods into what we teach, how we train and how we go about our days. ✦ Strong commitments and showing up for yourself again and again is a tough thing to continuously do. We get comfortable and we say “we’re fine”. Learning can keep us on track. It challenges us and forces our minds to contemplate and problem solve in new ways. When we do this, moving forward may not feel as difficult.
