Meet my Riviera glass collection! 🌱 Nyt tekee kyllä niin tiukkaa päättää lukuvuosi juuri kun muotti alkoi toimimaan ja alkoi päästä jyvälle kaikista sen haastavuuksista ⚡️ Olen aivan super fiiliksissä tästä suunnittelemastani yhdellä muotilla toteutettavasta ”Riviera”-lasisarjasta. Inspiraatio siihen löytyi nimensä mukaisesti viime syksyisellä Ranskan reissulla kohdatuista parvekekaiteista ja niiden ajattoman klassisesta muodosta. Tämä sopi täydellisesti yhteen koulussa ajankohtaisen pyörittäen puhallettavan muottisuunnittelutehtävän kanssa. Tie muotin suunnittelusta ja toteutuksesta ja kaikista käytännön haasteista näihin kuviin on ollut pitkä, mutta super opettavainen, enkä malta odottaa että pääsen syksyllä takaisin näiden pariin! 🔥 Super iso kiitos Ikatan metalliosastolle ja erityisesti Aaro Vehmakselle muotin valmistuksesta 🙏🏻❤️ Sekä kuvausassarina toimineelle @koponenkimmo lle 🥰

“Equal Opposite Reaction” Glass, yarn back with my second big piece from the past semester! this piece references the salt flats of the Lithium Triangle in South America, and the extractive processes currently taking place in the region. Tried out making pendants with a channel through them. Had this cool triangular shard of dichro glass hanging around and decided to use it on this. Then thought what the heck I may as well make another along with it 😄 so this second one has more dichro, as well as the reactive clear glass with copper-bearing stringers to get that fun red and cloudy blue reaction. “In the Palm of Your Hand” Glass, fabric, wire Finally finished this piece after about half a semesters worth of work! This one is so special to me and I’m so excited about how it came out :) still debating how much I want to share about the meaning behind it and how much I want viewers to determine for themselves, but here’s a little context- as some of you know, climate activism and specifically studying global climate inequality is a big part of my life. this year, I read Naomi Klein’s brilliant book “On Fire- The Burning Case for A Green New Deal”, and she characterized the root of this inequality as “a grabbing problem”. this imagery was incredibly powerful to me, and was a huge inspiration for this piece. Used two layers of this clear "prismatic" textured glass to get these fun bubbles. Stuck some stringers in between them and voilà. It's a pretty sturdy piece and I thought it'd work well as a coaster maybe. Each piece was polished for several weeks, with many a piece flying out of my hand on the last polish, but in the end it was worth it! UNITY IN SPECTRUM This piece consists of 18 quarter spheres, each cast in vibrant hues of glass, and offers an exploration of human diversity and unity. The pairing of colours symbolises the intricate tapestry of humankind, with each half sphere embodying a distinct individual within society. As the artist, I share a personal narrative, reflecting on my dual heritage, as seen in the juxtaposition of Estonian and English halves. A transfiguring revelation occurs when observing the piece from a distant corner, where the colours seamlessly dissolve into clarity, underscoring the fundamental truth that, despite our diverse origins, at our core, we share a common humanity. #opticalglass #glasscasting #glassstudent #contemporaryart #optics #contemporaryglass #spectrum #humanity

Thanks to @glaasinc for another wonderful night showcasing all the amazing glass art on display by all the graduates. Didn’t get a chance to take more photos and very much annoyed with myself, because the talent in that room was incredible. Donna Kennedy and Dr. Bronwyn Hughes are the OG’s who started this glass community, and without them none of this would be here for us. Can’t go without mentioning all the teachers who have shared their priceless knowledge and experience with all of us, couldn’t have done it without them either. #grammyspeech In between all the colourful fusing projects, I must say I do love to experiment with stain painting. This took around six kiln firings to complete so it was really nice to see it framed and in the gallery. I call this piece “Growing Pains”. Probably my favorite @bullseyeglass is their incredible Petrified Wood. It transforms so incredibly after firing, and its reactivity to copper-bearing glass - turning the glass a beautiful deep woody red - is such a wonderful perk. Mikä on inspiroivin paikka missä olet ikinä käynyt? 💫 Viime kesäinen viikko Italiassa jätti aivan ihmeellisen jäljen ja niihin (mieli)kuviin on tullut palattua lukuisia kertoja. Suurimman vaikutuksen teki kuitenkin upea, upea Vesuvius, mikä oli Napolin alueella vahvasti läsnä. Sen osittain pilvien peittämä siluetti maisemassa ilahdutti päivittäin, ja karulle huipulle kipuaminen vehreää rinnettä pitkin se vasta kokemus olikin. Ne näkymät, silmien tasolla lähes kosketeltavat pilvenhattarat ja se huikea jännitys kytevästä voimasta oli jotain aivan uskomatonta. So. I finally got this custom glass piece over to my skull-collecting friend. The skull fits perfectly. And you guys. Look at it with light underneath. Oh my god. It's beautiful. This was just a test with the flashlight on their phone; they're gonna get a light to put underneath it. Just LOOK at that red cast. Another tealight holder ☺️ this one took me about 6 hours to make - carefully choosing each stringer to make sure the colors worked well next to each other and that there was good variation of colors, and then measuring and cutting each piece before gluing it down. Whew! Was worth it though, don't ya think? It's also my first time doing a tack fuse and I'm really glad I did.
