Where are healers found? Chances are, we know a healer or two, and might not know it. Before they’re aware of their gifts themselves, it’s not easy to figure out. And sometimes even the most powerful healers choose to fly under the radar. As kids, we likely all had that friend we loved being around… who made us laugh, who we could talk to about anything without judgement, who made us feel heard and understood, who had good advice. They might’ve been a bit of a rebel, a loner, or considered a bit weird. But we always felt at peace after being with them. No friends like that? Then you might’ve been that friend. As adults, healers are everywhere… every nationality, race, religion/spirituality, and just about every profession, including stay-at-home parents. But as I’ve said, it’s not unusual for a career change to be involved… into one that allows our healing gifts to flow. Or it’s expressed as a significant hobby or side gig. Every journey is unique, but these changes often occur around mid-life. Often, healers end up either in creative fields or fields of service to others. Those in the former may be singers, musicians, writers, chefs, artists, designers, gardeners, etc. Those in service professions might be in healthcare (human or animal), public service (firefighters, paramedics, police, military), or they may be teachers or counselors/therapists. Or, their profession might span both… herbalism is a good example, though most creative fields end up as both for healers, as their creative gifts are used to heal others in some way. Of course, not everyone in these professions is a healer… most of these professions, if not all, have as many in them whose energies are neutral, low vibe, even evil… like many others. It takes discernment to know which is which, and it’s not always easy. Especially when we also consider that not all who claim to be healers actually are. The good news: the more we heal ourselves, the easier it becomes to see who is, and who isn’t. Let’s face it, evil isn’t going out of it‘s way to hide much these days, is it? No more flying stealth for us either. It’s time for true healers to join the party… we have work to do. 🙏🏼😇🙏🏼

Every patient is truly unique. Like in Nature there is never the same exact rock. Part of my lifelong study is how to get into rapport with each unique patient that comes to me. How to begin a session with some small talk, and seamlessly shift into an interview where the patient feels safe enough to reveal what his or her real needs are. In Five Element Acupuncture observation of our senses are keys to diagnosing a patient’s primary imbalance of where “ dis-ease “ lies. . When a patient is healed by treatment we note the changes in their experiences, and how inappropriate emotion lessens in intensity and becomes more appropriate; how the sound of their voice changes; how their color changes; and we note their odor changing too. . But the part of the brain that stores the memories associated with the trauma won’t let us know it and that’s why trauma must be processed in the body. . The body takes away the need for why and makes it possible to know the why in our reasoning brain when the time is right. . I work with Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and all round wise & witchy woman @violetquartz in the delicate dance of feeling and healing the complex trauma that makes up my complex self. . Our personal trauma looks like our personality when left unattended. I, in fact, am not a controlling and manipulative person but my trauma had me behaving as one for many years of my life. . Erica and I and many other practitioners we know and work with are trauma trained and focused. This (and anti-racism commitments / community care commitments) is the way forward in the helping and healing professions. "For some people, what they want to be when they grow up comes in a single big ‘ah-ha moment.’ For many others, it’s a series of ‘ah-ha moments’ that lead them to their profession. I love to hear people’s stories: who they are, why they are, and how they got to the who and why. Just like everyone else, I have had my battles, some not with hope and determination. But one thing that I understood is that the world can be a dark place sometimes and we all deserve to breathe, experience unconditional acceptance, and create a better living.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was first introduced to Psychology when I started contemplating some big questions during my senior secondary school. How can I motivate people to achieve their potential? How can I make a change in the world? How can I help people accept who they are? As we know, sometimes a good question is the answer. And that is when I started finding my answers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was just fascinated that there was a discipline focused on scientifically understanding and studying the human mind and behaviour. And I thought to myself, “What could be better than being able to alleviate human suffering?” I couldn’t think of anything more important that I could study. Working in healing professions involves engaging with suffering. Regardless of how passionate we are about our jobs, we all risk reaching our limit as we are still human. . Reaching this limit does not mean that it is the end of our calling. Rather, it can be an invitation for personal growth and for changing our relationship with our calling. . Three psychological signs that a worker has reached their limit are: burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. The three are often lumped together but it is important to understand their differences in order to come up with meaningful solutions. . I frequently get asked what the difference is between counseling and coaching. I thought it would be helpful to list what makes coaching different from counseling. ~ The distinction between “coaching” and “counseling” services are as follows: A therapy client cannot transfer to coaching services, to avoid a dual relationship. There will be no medical diagnosis offered. There will be no medical record kept, but instead a basic file including general information and notes that will still be confidential. If higher level of care is required, a referral or recommendations will be provided. High risk concerns that are not appropriate for coaching level services: Suicidal ideation, Self-harm, Substance abuse, Psychosis, etc. ~ Coaching does not follow a medical model, and no mental health evaluation or therapeutic treatments will be offered.
