Never Whistle at Night Started: 04.15.2024 Finished: 04.26.2024 ~look, if you think you saw this post yesterday... you're absolutely correct shhhhhh~ Man, I was so torn by this Indigenous horror anthology - on the one hand, horror! Short stories! Indigenous fiction!! On the other hand, maybe I've been reading too much horror lately and my tolerance threshold is too high. There were definitely some that spooked the heeeell out of me and made me wish I had wifi controlled lights so I didn't have to risk getting grabbed by the monster under my bed - "The Scientists' Horror Story" was my favorite. "Scariest. Story. Ever" wasn't scary per se, but it's ending was extremely wholesome and made me smile. "Collections" gave strong "Get Out" vibes and had a twist that made me think about the pros and cons laid out in the story. Overall, a solid read, and if you like to dabble in horror, I think you'll get the highest payoff reading this. (Anyone spot the eyes in the picture staring out at you?) . . . . . #horrorbooks #indigenousfiction #indigenousauthors #neverwhistleatnight #bookreview #bookstagram #shortstorycollection

✨ 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝚁𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 ✨ 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘍𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘺 • 𝘚𝘤𝘪-𝘍𝘪 • 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 2020 & 2022 This is a two-fer review, for the first two books in the Between Sky and Earth series. Thank you to @sagapressbooks for the free copy of these books! I’ll be honest. I was not convinced at the end of book 1. I’m glad I waited to write my review until after I had read both books, because Fevered Star made me a believer. In Black Sun - I enjoyed what was being set up but it ended on a cliff hanger and there was a lot of blood magic, gore, and violence that some may find excessive. By the way that only continues in book 2 but I started to read it as being very true to the historical period upon which this series is inspired - a period of sacrifice to gods in exchange for powers, health, prosperity, etc. I was also confused a lot because there’s world building that has to happen and the names were hard to remember/pronounce and the non-binary characters kept confusing me [I’ll own both of those ignorances; my #buddyread helped as well as google]. Also in book 2 I switched to audio and I loved it. The narrators and pronunciation made everything sound so beautiful. I don’t recommend audio for book 1 because there’s too much to grok and I think it is easier to follow written format. There is genius in this writer’s art. By the time I hit Fevered Star I realized I had come to love some of these characters. I mourned the losses, prayed that some would find their ways back together, and I could not stop reading. Blew past my own buddy read schedule. The politics, scheming, and the raison d’être for the characters are interwoven in a spectacular way. Still not a fan of no-closure endings but luckily we don’t have long to wait for book 3 which comes out this June. 💬 𝚀𝙾𝚃𝙳: What is a series that you hope to read soon? Come meet Sherry at Gathering: Festival of First Nations Stories on June 1st. See the link in our bio to RSVP. Sherry Lawson grew up on Rama Reserve near Orillia, Ontario in the lean 50’s and 60’s. Her father and his mother were a wealth of knowledge on topics of Native People, history, language and culture, and she thrived under their tutelage. Sherry never meant to be an author but turning fifty convinced her to leave a record for her children and grand-children. Sherry’s stories take us through a chaotic childhood and instances as a young adult of outright racism. There are tears and laughter, just like in real life. Sherry’s professional life took her from the halls of justice to helping deliver a breakfast program in area schools, from improving library and literacy services to First Nations communities, to speaking to audiences large and small, about how things used to be B.C. (Before casino). She was fortunate to travel the world with her late husband Rob and has two accomplished, grown children. Sherry likes to describe herself this way: wife, mother, community member and Nookomis (Grandmother). She is at work on the fourth collection of her Stories From My Life series. . . . . #indigenousauthors #gatheringfestival2024

Linnea Axelsson - Ædnan (2018/2024 tr. Saskia Vogel) ★★★★☆ The story of two Sámi families - Ristin and Ber-Joná in the 1910s and Lise in the 1970s - grappling to maintain their ways of life in the face of changing borders, displacement and forced loss of heritage. Written in sparse verse, this did take me a little while to get into the swing of it, but it was a deeply moving book. Necessarily, much is conveyed with few words, and I found it most affecting on reflection - certain layers of the story were not always immediately obvious whilst actually reading it. It’s a rewarding story that lingers. The sparseness of the writing suits the landscapes, but also effectively conveys the myriad losses suffered by Sámi over the past century - access to grazing lands and reindeer migration routes, connection to the land, identity, language, culture. I was particularly struck by a few lines about modern Sámi kids learning the language, but the diversity of dialects and accents of their grandparents, indicating where they are from and that should have been passed down, are missing - their teacher observes that their Sámi feels stilted. Axelsson doesn’t hold the reader’s hand and verse format doesn’t allow detailed explanations anyway, but there’s enough there to read between the lines whenever an event, law or court case is mentioned without having to interrupt the flow of reading to look it up immediately to understand the story. The continued encroachment on Sámi lands for renewable energy projects is also touched on, raising questions around climate change and the necessary push for renewables but at a cost to whom… Ædnan is very much a Sámi story, but also reflects the experiences of indigenous peoples around the world, particularly in terms of forcible loss of lands, language and culture. It’s impossible to read it in NZ and not consider parallels with the treatment of and attitudes towards Māori. An affecting, sparsely written verse novel conveying the myriad losses suffered by Sámi over the past century, from land access to language and culture. Have you read this one? 🦈 PS - How stunning is this cover? It might well be my favourite this year so far 😍

📙 A much belated vacation read review. • The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson has been on my shelves for many moons, but I finally made a point of picking it up. As I've said before, I wanted to focus on Indigenous works while I was on vacation in April, so this is one of the books I brought with me. • This story is both powerful and gentle, immersing you in a multi-generational saga of hardship, trauma, healing, and hope. Wilson's writing is superb, wrapping around you like a warm blanket on a frozen day. By the end, the reader is acutely aware of the damage done by colonization but also filled with hope that Indigenous communities will forge a just path forward. All in all, this story is a must read. • Pidamaya to Diane Wilson for sharing this beautiful story with the world. And as always, remember to read diversely. 🧡 • • • • • 🏷️ #readdiversebooks #bookreviews #theseedkeeper #dianewilson #indigenousauthors #indigenousvoices #decolonizeyourmind #decolonizeyourbookshelf #readmorebooks #bookishvibes

Today's #Recommendsday is "Rez Ball" by Byron Graves If you have any teen sports fans in your family - this is a perfect book for them - especially basketball players or fans. Graves's novel based on his own life experiences does a fantastic job of telling the story of Tre, who hopes to live up to the dreams of his family, friends, coach, and entire tribe and take the Red Lake Warriors to state basketball. Even more thrilling is the incredibly well-written basketball scenes. You almost feel like you're at the game watching it live. This is also an award-winning debut novel by Graves for anyone looking to fill those spots on their #NPLReads2024 Adult Reading Challenge card! #BasketballBooks #RezBall #IndigenousAuthors

Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer My son needs a new phone :) I listened to this book on @librofm and took a picture with his old Nokia phone. This book is truly amazing and I think everybody should read it. It was really eye-opening and made me look at many things from a different perspective. I'm definitely looking at the United States differently now. I had never thought that the Europeans not only almost decimated the indigenous people, but also brought with them their native species of plants, which similarly decimated many indigenous plants. I also think of trees and plants as people now and I tend to agree with the indigenous teachings that humans are the newest and that's why the stupidest of species. If I have a "religion," it's closer to the author's. I realized that we, Latvians, are rather indigenous and closer to the nature than many other people. It was a culture shock for me first in Kosovo and then here in Georgia that the locals didn't know the names for flowers or trees. I grew up picking wild herbs for herbal tees and most Latvians know which herbal tee is good for which ailment. Latvians are also mostly pagans and many call themselves non-religious, but I do believe that the forests and the sea are our temples. That's where people go to find themselves, feel connected to the world and find peace. I had more problems with accepting the concept of gift economy. First, I was born in a communist country, which didn't function. It was ruled by scarcity and Windigo. Second, my background is in market economics and the concepts of maximizing utility given scarce resources is rooted in me. If the indigenous Americans really managed to make it work and defeated Windigo, it makes them a much more advanced race like Avatar people. I also like the idea that we all have a gift to share and the author rightly recognizes her gift as writing - the writing was mesmerizing. #braidingsweetgrass #robinwallkimmerer #nonfictionrecommendations #librofm #audiobookrecommendation #the52bookclub #the52bookclub2024 #indigenousauthors #indigenousbooks

I bought Firekeeper's Daughter and Warrior Girl Unearthed at the same time given the strong recommendation from @sdjansen ! Warrior Girl didn't disappoint and I loved getting little snippets of insight into the lives of some beloved characters from Firekeeper's Daughter. Sequels are so hard especially when the first novel was so strong, everything kind of pales in comparison. The story wasn't as strong and convincing, the plot twists seem a wee more far-fetched, and just some more aggressive editing would have been nice. But what I think Boulley does she beautifully - as she did in Firekeeper's Daughter, but in a completely new way here - is teach the reader. Boulley both provides the reader with explanatory commas while also weaving in language and cultural references seamlessly. She touches on issues such as murdered and missing indigenous women (and the lack of attention on them), stolen cultural artifacts, fetishization of tribal women, mental health and anxiety, and racism throughout. Boulley does a good job of bringing the reader along this journey with the main protagonist, who is also learning about the horrors of these stolen remains and artifacts and their repatriation. So while there were strong, urgent themes throughout the novel, it was still hard not to compare it to the first.  My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ @_the_caro_ #BIPOCauthors #indigenousauthors #bibliophile #books #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #readingisfundamental #recommendationswelcome #readingaddict

Gardens in the Dunes by Leslie Marmon Silko 2024 Book 33 / 100 After being taken from their home and separated from each other, a pair of sisters embark on vastly different journeys in an attempt to return home. Told from multiple points of view, this book considers themes of cultural hybridity, eco-consciousness, home, family, assimilation, and so much more as it tells the story of Indigo, Sister Salt, and the people they meet along the way. This book was assigned for one of my classes and I have mixed feelings about it. Silko did a wonderful job weaving together the stories of a variety of characters and she resolved the plot line in a satisfying way. I loved how she incorporated historical events and offered her readers a glimpse into the boarding school, trade school, and reservation systems. My overall opinion is that this is a beautifully written piece of historical fiction that tells am important story. However, I frequently felt lost in the sheer amount of detail packed into the pages of this book. I found myself skimming quite a bit to avoid getting lost (which did not help me when quiz time came around 🙈) #bookreview #indigenousauthors #bookrecommendations #booksbooksbooks #bookrecommendations #bookcommunity

📖🗒️🤩 so happy & grateful i got to do this interview with tommy orange on his sequel novel to there there with wandering stars! i got to ask him all of my dying questions and explore the interesting themes in this novel. i think one of the most difficult things to talk about as native people is trauma manifesting into substance use and addiction, which this novel heavily explores. as a person in recovery who’s been sober for almost 7 years, it was really spot on to read tommy’s breakdown of certain character’s inner psyche as they came to terms with their substance dependence, specifically spot on was the paranoia it can bring. i thought tommy did a wonderful job capturing the experience and i recommend checking it out yourself! have you read wandering stars yet? what did you think? 📖✨ hope to do more bookish interviews and reviews in magazines later this year so stay tuned! 🩷 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booknerd #booknerd #bookphotography #indigenous #indigenousauthors #indigenouspeople #indigenousart #literature #bookcommunity #bookrecommendations #magazine #writer

This is such a sweet, engaging and fun book. Its lyrical text and breathtaking illustrations take the younger reader to a journey to the Arctic. Pauloosie loves MiKi Rock, his pet rock. His mother tells him a bedtime story about how, being part of the land, MiKi feels the seasons, see the animals and experience home (the Arctic). A great read aloud. "Say Yes: A Story of Friendship, Fairness and a Vote for Hope" by Jennifer Castles. Illustrated by Paul Seden: Once there were two little girls who were best friends. They did everything together. As they get older, they weren't allowed to do the same things anymore. Because they looked different. Because of the law. This is a story about the landmark 1967 Referendum, the two women who came together to change the law... and how the Australia people said YES. #MondayMugz ☕️ ‌ I’m needing to increase my nonfiction reading this year. I looked through my shelf and Our Voice of Fire by Brandi Morin stood out. Luckily for me, the audiobook was immediately available on Libby. ‌ 𝘚𝘺𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴: ‌ “Brandi Morin is known for her clear-eyed and empathetic reporting on Indigenous oppression in North America. She is also a survivor of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls crisis and uses her experience to tell the stories of those who did not survive the rampant violence. From her time as a foster kid and runaway who fell victim to predatory men and an oppressive system to her career as an internationally acclaimed journalist, Our Voice of Fire chronicles Morin’s journey to overcome enormous adversity and find her purpose, and her power, through journalism. This compelling, honest book is full of self-compassion and the purifying fire of a pursuit for justice.” ‌ If you’ve read this, let me know in the comments. ‌ #OurVoiceofFire #BrandiMorin #BIPOCauthors #IndigenousAuthors #Memoirs #MMIWG #VanIsleBookstagram #CanadianBookstagram #CanadianBookstagrammers #BookishCanadians #BookLover #BookRecommendation

Do yourself a favour and read this fabulous and sometimes creepy debut by @jessicastellaa . “Bad Cree” pulled me right in with its eerie dreams reaching into our reality, warm and loving connections between Aunties and cousins and overall momentum that keeps you guessing. Currently Reading ☀️ . “Moon of the Crusted Snow” really left me wondering what would happen to the Anishinaabe community, so I was excited to hear there was a sequel. This one starts 12 years after the lights have gone out, they are surviving but certainly not thriving. They are being warned by their elders that they simply cannot stay, their resources are drying up. We follow Evan and his teenage daughter as they trek across Northern Ontario to determine the conditions of the outside world and see if they can relocate to their traditional home on Lake Huron. . If this book is anything like his first, it will be a grim dystopian story filled with resilience, grief, hope, danger and action. . #booksbythebay #dayoff #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #instabooks #bibliophile #currentlyreading #shoplocal #sunny #currentlyreading #indigenousauthors #sequel #booksynopsis @waub

Typically when you come across a book about moving, it has elements of sadness & heartache, but that’s not always the case in real life. Sometimes moving is a joyous event, especially if it means going back home. ❤️ A young Cherokee girl has grown up in the city & watched it expand in front of her eyes. Cars always zooming by, more buildings keeping pop up, less animals are around, and family, well they’re far away. Until, they’re not! The girl’s family is moving to where things move at a slower pace - back home. ❤️ Two incredibly talented Indigenous creators, Traci Sorell & Michaela Goade, have come together to create a stunning masterpiece that shows appreciation for their ancestral land. … 📖 Review: Thanks @levinequerido for the gifted book — My Good Man by Eric Gansworth MY GOOD MAN follows Brian as he navigates childhood into young adulthood, becoming a reporter and trying to balance life on and off the reservation. As the newsroom’s only Indigenous employee, he is tasked with reporting on stereotypical stories regarding the local reservation. With fantastic writing and complex characters, MY GOOD MAN, was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed the poetry and artwork included which meaningfully tied into the storyline. Deeply character-driven, the story explores themes of generational trauma, coming-of-age, identity, racism, masculinity, classism, grief, and love. I found the pacing to be quite slow, but that was ok as there was a lot to take in and unpack within the book. The author’s note at the end was interesting and insightful. Overall, this was a thought-provoking book that I greatly enjoyed. . . . . . [image ID in alt text] 🐾🐾🐾 🏷 #MyGoodMan

Let’s celebrate together, raise awareness and do something good for bees. The main purpose of World Bee Day events is to spread awareness of the significance of bees and other pollinators for our survival. Simply proclaiming World Bee Day does not do much for bees and other pollinators; the main work of safeguarding their existence still needs to be undertaken. World Bee Day is an excellent opportunity to put bees at the centre of the national conversation for a day and encourage actions that create more bee-friendly landscapes. Beekeepers and nature conservationists are united in encouraging improved conditions for bees to build pollination security and to safeguard our food security. “Stories lead us inward and outward. Inward to reflect on how the story resonates with us and our life and outward on actions we may take from the lesson or lessons in the story. Lessons that guide us in our well-being and the thriving of all living beings. Our kin.” - The Council of Pecans, Braiding Sweetgrass For Young Adults, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Adapted by Monique Gray Smith, Illustrations by Nicole Neidhardt Four years ago I read Braiding Sweetgrass which was a beautiful read that certainly expanded my knowledge of Indigenous wisdom, knowledge, way of being. Having recently been gifted the opportunity to be in a learning space where @moniquegraysmithauthor would be offering wisdom 🤲🏻 I picked up Braiding Sweetgrass For Young Adults. I am 100 pages in and very much understanding that this is the book I am needing in this moment for the version of self I am today and that quite certainly who I was four years ago perhaps did not get to the depths to which Braiding Sweetgrass offers the reader as I was not ready to receive as I had growth to do to truly connect with the offering. Sitting in significant reflection as I consider all the prompts being offered. Much gratitude to know that what I came to learn yesterday I will be prompted to explore further today when new perspectives are presented to me and that I can embrace the abundant gift of being a life long learner. Appreciating all the seeds the humans who offer us these books are planting on my learning journey and offering my gratitude to you @moniquegraysmithauthor for what you shared in person on cookie people to doing something in a good way versus the western way of beings “right” way, which is a binary I am attempting to shift beyond. 🌱🙏🏻 . . . #BraidingSweetgrass #booksofinstagram #IndigenousAuthors #learningjourney #MoniqueGraySmith #RobinWallKimmerer #storytelling

This is a book that I cautiously requested because of the title. At first glance, it looks like there’s going to be some real pan-NDN stuff going on and I’m not a fan of pan-NDN-ism. I wasn’t sure if I should pick this up. But, the description sounded like I should put my gut reaction aside and give it a chance. I'm glad that I did. Jennifer Grenz spent 2 decades trying to fix and repair ecosystems in coastal BC. She practiced her traditional medicine at home, in secret. She learned to separate the two. She did such a good job she even rolled her eyes at people who tried to bring different perspectives into her work. That's a level of internalization that I feel in my bones. What Grenz offers us is the story of her journey, both professional and personal. We don't get two separate versions of her journey, we also don't get two intertwined or braided versions, what we do get is a presentation of both existing at once within a larger mosaic. Grenz wants to change our perception in such a way that we are able to recognize the relationality of all things. This is, obviously, no small feat. Grenz can’t do this on her own, but what she can do is contribute to the change and share her journey as an example of what it means to see the world this way. The idea here is that we should move from seeing ourselves as dominant and controlling of nature, something we clearly aren’t no matter how much ‘western civilization’ wants us to believe, to seeing ourselves as having responsibility in the balance of our world. Our actions have consequences. We can see this all around us today. As I write this, here in B.C. we have the media telling us that “fire season” is coming, but we already have fires, some still burning from last year. A perspective founded in the relationality Grenz is indicating wouldn’t give us the phrase and concept of “fire season” as it is used today. This book is a gift. Gifts come with responsibility. If you pick this up, make sure you do something to honour that. Her story and stories meet us where we are, the next steps are up to us. #MedicineWheelForThePlanet #ARC #NetGalley #Bookstagram #Science #Ecology #JenniferGrenz #IndigenousAuthors

Although Kathy loves poetry, she is far too shy to recite it in front of her class. But the story of Pauline Johnson, renowned as the "Mohawk Princess," inspires Kathy to overcome her stage fright. Pauline, from the Grand River Reserve in Ontario, crisscrossed the country, reciting her poems to far-flung communities, making her among the most beloved literary figures of the Edwardian era. “The Poet” is one book in the Tales from Big Spirit series, a unique seven-book graphic novel series that delves into the stories of seven great Indigenous heroes from Canadian history. Designed to correspond to grades 4–6 social studies curriculums across Canada, these books will help students make historical connections while promoting important literacy skills. #KidsLit #PictureBooks #ChildrensLit #ReadingResources #IndigenousBooks #IndigenousResources #IndigenousAuthors #HighWaterPress

Swipe for the letter I received with the book. #indigenousliterature #indigenousbooks #indigenousauthors ID: 1. A photo of Looking for Smoke by K.A. Cobell, which is being held up in front of a white flowering tree. 2. A letter: “May 2024 Dear Reader, Did you figure out the mystery? I’m so thrilled to give you a final copy of my young adult thriller LOOKING FOR SMOKE. You’ve gotten a glimpse of the setting with the items in the first box. LOOKING FOR SMOKE is set on the Blackfleet reservation, which is nestled next to Glacier National Park in beautiful Montana. Here, you’ll find rainbow rocks in the crystal-clear lakes, ranches, huckleberry everything, and plenty of bears and other wildlife. You’ve also had a peek into my characters’ lives in the second box. The book follows four Blackfleet teens who are honoring their culture in different ways at the annual North American Indian Days celebration. New-girl Mara feels like an outsider, struggling to find her place. Grief-stricken Loren is stuck in the throes of angry sorrow. Class-clown Brody is trying to please everyone but coming up short. And tough-guy Eli is keeping secrets and shutting everyone out…but he has his reasons. In box three, we showed you a preview of the struggles these characters will face. Each is grappling with the murder of a classmate—one who they each had a fraught relationship with. When they become suspects in her murder, they’ll have to try to trust each other if they want to clear their names…even though one of them could be the murderer. Thank you so much for participating, and I hope you enjoy LOOKING FOR SMOKE.”

Book review: #Dragonfruit by #MakiiaLucier @clarionbooks @harpercollins YES. This book is so brazen and kicks down the door, yelling! There’s not much of an intro into the world of Dragonfruit, but omfg I was so drawn in. This book needs to be made into a movie, TV show, something. Not only does it feat matriarchal societies, strong women, it’s got Pacific Islander mythology, umm dragons(!), markings that turn into animals, and sweeping adventure. There are times I was reading and yelled “YES!!!!” to no one. Or some of the twists at the end totally had me cracking me. Seriously this will be one of my favs this year. I’m going to end my BOTM subscription soon, but so excited they’ve highlighted a PI author (about time). I know y’all like dragons. Why not pick up this book? ? Is this one on your radar ? Emotive. Heartbreaking. Historical. MY THOUGHTS💭: Tommy Orange is a lyrically gifted powerhouse of a writer. In “Wandering Stars,” he communicates the generational ache felt by the Red Feather family in a way that evokes deep empathy and righteous anger. You can’t read this book without caring deeply for these characters. Orange masterfully translates the power and sadness of the weight passed down through generations—weight we’re forced to carry due to violence, addiction, oppression, assimilation, identity struggles, and the loss and rediscovery of culture and love. The way he intertwines the layers of loss and life, past and present, with history and culture, and sorrow and resilience is not only beautiful but poignant. His prose vividly captures the legacy of trauma while also celebrating the enduring strength of Native communities. However, I did feel that the pacing alternated between slow and fast, which sometimes disrupted the flow of the alternating storylines. Despite this, “Wandering Stars” remains a profound and compelling continuation of the themes explored in “There There,” offering a deep reflection on the ongoing fight for recognition, justice, and identity. Highly recommended for fans of historical fiction and those looking for a deeply moving, beautifully written narrative. 336 pgs Fiction Historical / Contemporary / Indigenous Rights

This novel feels markedly more juvenile than its predecessor, the Firekeeper’s Daughter, but matures as you read on (just like our character). Warrior Girl Unearthed takes place several years after the events of the previous book, so we do get some interesting updates on people we know and love. Although focused on a younger cast, the author takes the opportunity to use them as an avatar for the audience as they learn about NAGPRA, a federal law concerning the return of sacred items and remains to their rightful place. And of course all the loopholes museums and private collectors use to keep them in their possession. And we of course, still get a great mystery and lots of high stakes. I was unsure about this book in the beginning and ended up really liking this one and our protagonist. Most importantly, this book sheds light on an issue going on for far too long: missing and murdered indigenous women who are never brought home or get justice.
