I could not resist - some more experiments- my high relief landscape! This represents the folding of earth’s crust. The inspiration for this work came from my camping trip to Payne’s Find. ( a town 5 hours from Perth that sprung up during the gold rush in the 1890s) We found a shady area under some Peppercorn trees on the edge of a dried out creek bed. They say that bits of gold can be lodged among tree roots as water courses along during floods and downpours. I had hired a metal detector to try and find me some gold!! And guess what?? The huge lot of beeping that got me so excited turned out to be a buried car body!! Then more beeping later turned out to be old discarded donkey shoes!! As my painting neared completion (in my head) I began to hear Cat Steven’s Song- Morning has broken, like the first morning- Blackbird has spoken like the first bird..,,,, so I decided to call it “Morning has Broken” 150x113cm - oil on canvas. An art collector from Melbourne ( she has already acquired 3 other paintings) is preparing to welcome her fourth. Thank you for being such a kind supporter! The moon has been one of my favourite themes since I saw her in her full glory! It was years ago when I lived in Melbourne and my parents decided to move to Perth. Being a mother of two and not having the money to fly us all there for Christmas, I decided to drive. This meant driving nearly 4000 klm across the Nullobour plains! So into our station wagon I threw our dog, the Guinea Pig, the turtle and the kids ( they were 6-10 at the time) It took us 4 days and the second night out I pulled over by the side of the road to look at the moon. There was so much magic in the air and as I gazed up at her in the blackest sky surrounded by bright pinhole stars, I fell in love!
