Τα κίτρινα άνθη του, ωριμάζοντας, μετατρέπονται σε ασημί χρώματος θύσανους, που διασκορπίζονται στον άνεμο, οι γνωστοί μας "κλέφτες". Η κοινή ονομασία «δανδελίων» (dandelion), προέρχεται από τη γαλλική φράση dent de lion που σημαίνει «δόντι λιονταριού», απο το πριονωτού σχήματος φύλλωμα. Είναι ένα "έξυπνο" ζιζάνιο, παράγει γύρω στους 100 σπόρους κάθε ανθός και ένα φυτό μπορεί να παράγει περισσότερους από 5.000 σπόρους το χρόνο, διασπείρεται με τον άνεμο σε μεγάλη απόσταση και έχει τη δυνατότητα να "μολύνει" τεράστιες εκτάσεις, βρίσκοντάς το παντού!!! Έχει χρησιμοποιηθεί στην ιατρική για τη θεραπεία λοιμώξεων, ως διουρητικό και τονωτικό, χωρίς να παρουσιάζει τοξικότητα. Η βεντάλια χρησιμοποιείται πλεον όχι μόνο για δροσιά 🌬️ αλλά και σαν μέσο ρομαντικής ❤️ επικοινωνίας, με την επινόηση ενός κώδικα απο κρυπτογραφημένα μηνύματα 💬 ώστε να συνεννοούνται οι ερωτευμένοι. Έτσι οι νέες με τη θέση και την κίνηση της βεντάλιας δήλωναν στους αγαπημένους τους τις προθέσεις τους και την αγάπη τους.(Γρήγορη κίνηση δήλωνε αγάπη, γρήγορο κλείσιμο δήλωνε αδιαφορία,μισάνοιχτη βεντάλια κοντά στα χείλη ήταν πρόσκληση για φιλί) Στο flamenco σήμερα, μια μεγαλύτερη σε μέγεθος βεντάλια, η pericón, αποτελεί βασικό αξεσουάρ για την έκφραση και κίνηση της χορεύτριας💃, χρησιμοποιείται συνήθως στους χορούς caracoles, guajira, sevillana και alegría.
