It is so true what they say: grapes don’t grow in ugly places 🌅☀️🍇✨🌺 🍷 🍷 🍷Kind of can’t believe it’s been three seasons since posting here, so I’m going to go for a little #tbt this Saturday morning as I sip my coffee and reminisce about my trip to @northforkwinetrail @longislandwinecountry! This visit was so amazing, and I can’t believe it took me this long in life to finally make it out to the North Fork of Long Island. This stop was an especially favorite visit of ours: @pindarvineyards ! We enjoyed sipping a little bit of everything on their huge patio, listening to live music as we strolled the property, and watching families play amongst the vines in their huge, accommodating space. If it was busy, you’d never know it because of all the areas they have to spread out - including a beautiful open grassy spot that’s perfect for a picnic or one of their delicious snacks! This one was certainly a visit for the books. Oh, and we loved grabbing their ready-made gift baskets as souvenirs! It took everything in us *not* to join the club - even though they offer shipping to most states! If you find yourself up in the North Fork of LI anytime soon, be sure to stop by.

Carmen Stevens is one of my favourite winemakers. I love her passion and attention to detail. When I saw her at WineX last year with her new unreleased Bordeaux blend, we agreed to host an intimate experience of this new blend @mr_slimfit showroom upon release. Well, on May 17 2024 we did exactly that. 🍷🥳 We had the @carmenstevenswines Julie Rosé as our welcome drink. We then started the tasting with her Sauvignon Blanc, followed by the Chenin Blanc, which both paired really well with the Sushi we served. For the reds we tasted her Merlot, Namrec blend as well as the much anticipated Petrichor, her new bouduex blend. The Petrichor 2022 is a fusion of 5 grape varieties with Cabernet Sauvignon as the main component at 57%, Cabernet Franc 18%, Merlot 12%, Petite Verdot 9%, and Carménère at 4%. This gem won the 2024 Blends Challenge Trophy in February this year, before even launching to the public. Our guest loved and enjoyed Carmen’s wines, as well as getting to know more about this amazing winemaker. Thank you so much once again Carmen, for an incredible evening. I poured this cutie to a beer lover today. As soon as a he took a sip he shouted ‘DANG!’ and instantly had to sip it again. He said he loved this wine because it reminded so much him of a saison beer—expressive spice and fruit aromas of peach, tangy apple and coriander seeds, with that distinct hop bitterness. Add the Tuscan seaside, a mineral backbone and a warm finish and you’re there. I’m a huge fan of hop so I loved this comparison. 🌞 Summer is officially here now that it’s MDW and I’m counting down the days until I’m able to eat my dad’s famous clams with a glass of Bordeaux Blanc again. This was a special bottle I opened last summer that I had bought when I visited @larrivethautbrion 5 years ago. Typical of a white Bordeaux, it’s a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon and an absolute perfect pairing with shellfish (and any other seafood really). I have one more bottle left from my trip that I can’t wait to open this summer once baby boy is here! Side note - not all whites are meant to age, in fact most aren’t! The Sémillon in this blend gives the wine some ageability, which is why it was still so yummy after all those years. What’s a pairing you can’t wait to have that screams summer? 🥂

The weather may be getting a little chillier (even if still extraordinarily dry) in Perth, but there is still opportunity in the afternoon to sit in the sun and explore this amazing wine from @vino_volta . 2023 Different Skins, a blend of Frontignac and Gewurztraminer from the Swan Valley and Perth Hills. It has a subtle dusky rose hue, with an intensely aromatic nose - crushed rose petals, Turkish Delight, lychees and ginger spice all swirling from the glass. Not much of a joy to drink and experience. Unclear what vintage it was but in the end too old. Viña Muriel was a try for an affordable white Rioja. As you can see by the level of the bottle this wasn‘t much fun either. Perfumed and floral. Just unpleasant to drink. Liked the Catena Alta. Could probably have needed a few more years. Haven‘t had a Malbec in ages. It was a good wine but it didn‘t make me feel that I‘ve missed much not drinking too much Malbec in the last couple of years. Still an enjoyable wine. Garnacha is not becoming my friend either. Not a bad wine but this, too, did not make me want to dive deeper into Garnacha altogether. Liked the Lanzaga while it was hopelessly too young. Dense and concentrated, lactic and powerful. Needs at least 5 years. Interesting Mencia from Banzao. Good to try different stuff even if it‘s not all going to be my favorites. Re-calibrate and challenge your own prejudices. Standpunkt is a cheap drug store wine. For the money it‘s actually drinkable and a decent job. Didn‘t enjoy the style of the Artuke. Carbonic fermentation with the results that make me dislike this style every time. Cheap candy and artificial fruit. Artuke has definitely many better wines in their range. Wasn‘t much of a fan of the Bollinger that night. I know how it can be but it needs time. Young, it‘s just unsettled. Still my favorite among the labels. Great nose on the Mas Candi.
