🇯🇵: 1978-1983 Datsun 280ZX Turbo (HS30) is a North American-spec Z that in this case was reverse-imported into Japan…2 of them because if you got a friend then rolling in two of them is infinitely cooler than doing it by yourself. The Turbo models were introduced in 1981 putting a L28ET turbo I6 engine under the hood. This had 182PS/276Nm. Hmmm…apparently at the time the Japanese government did not allow turbos to be put on bigger engine, red above 2.0L hence it was not sold in Japan. Should look into this more at some time… So when it hit the US streets this was the fastest Japanese car out there with a top speed of 210km/h and a time to 60mph of 7.4sec. Carb-side AC lines are done! I’m still going back and forth on hard line or hose for the other side. You can see the prototype of the hard line in the first photo. There are two problems with it: the max length is 72 inches, which is about two inches too short to get a nice clean routing, and about six inches too short to tuck it away and make it discreet; and the end is just slightly wrong for the R32 AC drier receiver in the last photo. I am too proud of that score to switch it out, and I’m uneasy about modifying the end of the line and potentially not getting a tight seal. The problem with the hose is that it doesn’t bend as tight so gets weird in a could of places, and I’m still unsure if these @danfoss_group E-Z Clip fittings are going to be air tight. We will find out when I try to charge the system. AC hard lines for inside the cabin are in. This one was a pain. I went through several pieces until I got the lengths and bends right, and even these aren’t wonderful. I opted for @vintageair_ #u-bend-em aluminum hard lines because stainless was going to be far too expensive and the hose options I investigated didn’t quite cut it. These are fine. If I got another set I could make them perfect, but I don’t think I want to waste the money (plus the time waiting for them to come from @summitracing. The insulator is OEM from eBay. I couldn’t find a 5/8” pipe bender with a tight enough radius, so I made one. This scrap piece came out pretty well, all things considered. Yes, there is a slight kink and the straight side isn’t totally straight, but I think it’s just because I went too fast. The key was packing the pipe with very fine sandblaster medium to keep it from collapsing. Water could probably work, too, but I’m not sure the caps are strong enough to hold the pressure.
