It’s been a busy few weeks (weekends). Working a weird schedule makes it hard to get stuff done during the week. Freshly made speaker pods. Finding the new kick panels was a pain but got some. Maintaining the stock style vent was a must for me and with nobody making a good looking set of panels with speakers I made my own. I went through 7ish iterations before I landed on these. Is it perfect? No but the custom design helps with the contour of the panel. Finally!! A key part that I’ve been waiting on for the 327 that is going in the Patina Pile. Years ago I spent untold hours getting this Holley carb exactly how I wanted it. Ran it on a few of my small engines. Lately it has been used to test run engines that I built for customers. Keeping with the old school vibe I decided to use it on the PP. Pulled it out of the box and discovered that it had been dropped (never loaning it out again) and one corner was broken off the throttle plate and the linkage was bent. 10 years ago I made a quick stop at Bonneville Salt Flats on my way to Heidts in Illinois. All & all it was a great trip excluding the tornado in Kearney, Nebraska. Day 5 - The motor!!! Just your basic period correct 327 and camel hump heads with the crown jewel Hooker Ceramic Coated Fenderwell headers. Rather than standard Chevy orange we opted for a Traco Racing Engine throwback and painted the block “straight Traco grey!” (If you know you know) The rest of the night was dedicated to engine and tranny crossmember brackets, seat install and trailer hookup brackets. Day 4 - fabricating brackets for the front leaf springs. In order to achieve our stance and preferred ride height we had to hang our brackets off flush to the top of the subframe. Made sure both sides were identical in size and weight for balance. Ended up working out pretty good and symmetry of both sides gives it a overall cool look. At this@point we had one day to go before the gasser show on Saturday. Day 3 - Fabricating the tilt front end. After researching other builds, some people using gate or prefab’d hinges I let my carpenter skills go to work and came up with a hinge system using just 3/4 round stock. Eventually the hood will be functional 4 ways. The whole clip will tilt together OR just the hood can hinge forward for quick maintenance OR the hood can be removable and placed on top of the car OR the whole front clip can be removed entirely.
