TTC 4563 and 7975 at Neville Park Loop both operating on the 501 Queen towards Roncesvalles Loop on March 5, 2020. It's not too common to spot a streetcar and a replacement bus operating to the same destination, however prior the COVID-19 pandemic, Queensway Division ran 3 rush hour trippers on the 501 Queen to relieve heavy crowding on the streetcar route caused by a streetcar shortage. TTC/Metrolinx 6255 is photographed arriving at the Eglinton Crosstown LRT east test portal near Birchmount and Eglinton on May 31, 2021. At the time, the ECLRT was not connected through Yonge and Eglinton so testing trains that were to be used on the eastern section of the lone needed to be trucked from the Eglinton Maintenance and Storage Facility near Mt Dennis. These cars were temporarily stored near Science Centre Station and were used to test the line between Laird and Rosemount Stations. TTC 1663 exiting Kennedy Station Drop-Off Platform on route 131 Nugget during a brief snowstorm on March 19, 2024. This unit is unique in the sense that it carries a powertrain module (Cummins ISB engine/AC traction motor/AC traction generator) and PCS (propulsion control system) from a 17-18xx unit. The 17-18xx order featured the an updated PCS unit and system, with the classification "G9", and the previous 15-16xx order that 1663 is part of features the "G7" system. TTC/Durham Region Transit 8656 is photographed in the west outdoor tracks at Eglinton Division in March 2024. 8656 is one of 10 86xx Novas loaned to Durham Region Transit following a major fire at Raleigh Garage that destroyed a storage bay and 20+ buses on August 17, 2023. These buses were immediately offered to DRT, and entered service on September 11, 2023, following operator training and several modifications. TTC 8121 and 8083 about to part ways on Aukland Road outside Kipling Station on routes 112B West Mall and 40 Junction-Dundas West/49 Bloor West respectively on January 16, 2024. 8121 was built in 2010, and 8083 in 2007, however both could face retirement any day now with the scheduled replacement of the 80xx and the mechanical failure related retirements of the 81xx. The latter comes as a surprise since the original plan was for the 8100 series was not expected to retire until next year and was supposed to make up the majority of the fleet at Queensway Division, however, as their parts warranty has expired, any bus that experiences a major mechanical failure will be decommissioned. TTC 8053 is pictured at Pioneer Village Station making a rare appearance on the 41 Keele in June 2022. At the time, it was also particularly cool to catch Queensway buses on routes run by their hybrid counterparts. The beginning of the end. 🚌 -------------------------------- This week, buses 8105 and 8175 were retired from service, pending decommissioning. One unit was retired due to a blown differential, and the other for low engine oil pressure. March 4, 2024 marked the end of an era with the final 79xx Orion VII buses being retired from service. These buses operated across the city, being allocated to Birchmount, Eglinton, Arrow Rd, Wilson and Queensway throughout their life. The retirement of this series began on June 1 2023, with 7909, 7910, 7914, 7915, 7916, 7917, 7921 being marked for decommissioning as they were "scheduled for replacement". OGs return to Queen. 🚌 ------------------- TTC 8047 near Broadview Ave and Gerrard St East on route 501B Queen on February 19, 2024. 8047 was off property multiple times between April and August of 2023 for major transmission work before it was eventually retired and was partially decommissioned on September 26, 2023. In a shocking move, 8047 was reinstated and given a new transmission and a new lease on life. Shit you'll only see once. 🚌 ------------------- TTC 1143 at Lawrence Ave East and Midland Ave on route 903 Kennedy Station-Scarborough Centre Express on September 4, 2023. The assumption at the time of this catch was that this would be a normal occurrence as the route was run by 600 crews, however this would be the only time Orions from Mount Dennis and Queensway would operate the 903. 1143 was retired and decommissioned a few months later on December 9, 2023.
