This past weekend I had my BEST finish at a Pro Solo ever. I placed 4th/18 drivers in CAM and was .547 seconds from 1st!! It was tight all weekend but I'm proud that I was sitting well into the trophy spots all weekend. I had the honor of co-driving with @justpeachey1 as well and he was able to grab the win! So my car also had its best finish ever as well!! Glad to know that my setup has first place pace, and I learned a lot from Justin and his incredible driving 💪 Next big event for me is Muscle on the Mountain at @umimotorsportspark (thinking about the Brunswick Pro too!), so just looking forward to getting as much seat time as possible and doing what I can! What an amazing weekend!! We participated in @optimabatteries @driveusca Ultimate Street Car @weathertechraceway. In a field of 18 newer model Mustangs and Camaros I was Pretty happy to place 6th in GT class in the oldest and most underpowered car in class and 23rd out of 86 overall. I ended up beating my personal best on the road course with a 143.192. And the best part of the weekend was hanging out with my racing buddies! We had the full ramgarage racing team out this weekend at @optimabatteries Ultimate Street Car round 3 with my #1 crew chief dad @regularassmustangdad and my #1 social media manager/ best wife ever taking hundreds of pictures throughout the weekend 😁! We didn’t come home with any hardware this time, but we showed strong pace throughout the weekend to keep the Camaro bros on their toes. We ended up 3rd in GT and 5th overall on the event with a 2nd place D&E finish amongst a very deep field of Sema quality cars. Other than a suspension bind issue yesterday and this morning along with some frustrating ABS intervention, our mustang ran like a champ! Splitter v4.5 (yes, I’ve really gone through 4.5 splitters) is ready to throw DOWN (get it, because downforce). Sorry. Hopefully this splitter is here to stay and will give many years of faithful service…..Lowered the splitter, fixed the AOA, added diffusers, an air dam, side supports and then painted it black. Engine oil changed with the best of the best, which is @redlineoil of course. How else do you think this 3v has survived all these track days and countless 7,200 RPM shifts? I WAS curious to see how much of a difference this will make this weekend at SONOMA raceway, but the event appears to be rained out. I’m gutted. I might be able to get a session or two of dry track on Sunday. But otherwise, no chance whatsoever at a PB. And Sonoma is NOT the kind of track to race on in the rain. Even worse, Buttonwillow later this month appears to be rained out too. @matslv @racingbyrds final Day 3 shenanigans! 3 runs to get it done on a reversed course and Lisa @lisaberrysaur was fast right off the start securing fastest lady and 8th overall fastest of all laps combined over 3 days 😳🥳! The final group was a back n forth battle between Danny, Chad, Paul, and I. It all came down to our last runs with only 2 of us dropping into the 52s. My 52.8s run was good enough for 1st in Modern Muscle, but Chad @autoxandtrack had a flyer last run coming in with a 52.3 setting TTOD. Day 2 @racingbyrds at @matslv autocross photo dump! Finished 2nd in modern muscle with Danny @wellerhabits_ coming out on top and Paul @vodoo_v8 close behind in 3rd! Lisa was fastest lady for the 2nd day in a row and earned one of the coolest trophies in racing. Big milestone with the car today! @coreyprice9695 and I got the stang’s suspension and brake upgrade and transformation completed tonight! Tonight was dialing in the alignment with the fancy string setup. I maxed out the camber on the stock strut top opening, which got me -2.1 degrees. Toe was set to 0. We each put in about 20 hours of total time this week, Wednesday through Saturday. Corey gets his garage back now. lolol I learned a ton from Corey and I’m grateful for our friendship over the last 10 years or so. I owe him big time! Went for the initial test drive around 10pm tonight, did some brake bedding after feeling the car out to make sure there were no weird noises or vibrations. All felt and drove good. By no means a bad day at the track thanks to great company @4o6racing @ligistx @fordguy_s197_3v but not exactly the day I was hoping for….. First session, car was understeering like crazy. Both at high speeds and low speeds. For the next session, I increased the rear sway bar rate which helped, but the car still just felt bad. Felt bad pretty much everywhere. Didn’t have good turn in, didn’t have good mid corner grip, was horrible under braking. For the third session I further stiffened the rear sway bar which for the most part brought back the handling balance that I had previously fallen in love with. But the car still just didn’t feel right, especially under braking. Thinking about it more, the car was not aligned properly. Was that having an impact on its drivability? Likely. Then, once I got home and I was looking over some pictures of my car on track, I noticed something disturbing; my splitter appeared to be pointing UP!!! Sure enough, I got home, measured the angle of attack on the splitter and boom. +1.1°. DOH. I say all this to say that, since I didn’t sweat the details, the tens of hours and thousands of dollars I spent resulted in a pathetic drop in lap time of 0.05s. I learned this lesson a couple years ago, when I was shocked that bolting on fancy suspension parts did not result in an immediate drop in lap time. Details REALLY matter in car setup, and last weekend I got the details wrong. But most importantly, I’m proud I was able to figure out what specifically was causing me issues. That is the first step in fixing problems. With that being said….I’ll be redoing the splitter mounting, adding diffusers and getting the car aligned shortly. THEN we’ll see what’s what. Given all the setup issues, the fact that I was able to technically get a PB was pretty remarkable. We did it! 😁 Got the GT class win at @optimabatteries Ultimate Street Car event at @thunderhillracewaypark and 3rd overall 🙌. The car was lights out all weekend long and I had to recalibrate my brain to trust the brakes because the bmw mk60e5 ABS module is that good. My confidence was way up and my dad @regularassmustangdad had the car in tip top shape. We literally never put the car on jacks, which might be a first haha. First in class and 10th overall in peak performance challenge was a huge milestone for us and we look forward to building on this momentum as we look towards our next event at Laguna Seca! It was such a blast hanging out with the whole Optima crew again too as not enough can be said about the life long friendships that have been built because of this series. Really cool talking with the guys behind @ossparts as well so definitely check them out! My hats off to Jake @elektra_1le and Bryan @th3lma_louis3_racing for taking points away from me in different segments and pushing me to keep improving along with Danny @wellerhabits_ for the invaluable track tips. Tech Thursday: Ford gave us a FANTASTIC vehicle with the S550 GT500. An incredibly capable sports car, things get a little tricky when trying to launch these from a dig. The rear end-link design prevents the usage of 18" wheels which are needed to run drag oriented tires.
