💦🎨 Ink Splat Sunday 🎨💦 I’d not tried the Anderillium inks before last year’s pen show and had the luxury of sampling almost any color in their line. I fell in love with Adonis Butterfly Blue 🦋 but subsequently have found it’s too light for daily journaling but have been enjoying it with a bit of Birmingham Sea Holly mixed in to darken for legibility. Sea Holly’s color density is highly variable depending upon the paper used. As splats they’re lovely, but alone for journaling use with finer nibs, these two are a bit unsatisfying. 🦢💫 I love the sunning swan engraved on my Fabled Feather Bijou pen 💫🦢 It was graciously gifted to me in a recent giveaway. THANK YOU @ferriswheelpress. Inspiration for the design was drawn from the 12 Wild Swans fairytale I paired my writing sample with FWP’s Sherry Sonata (Swipe ⬅️ to see) which was a perfect contrast to the snowfall white lacquer finish. The fine steel nib performed smoothly and I understand why artists love these pens. Serendipity and God winks are such powerful concepts especially when hidden within art therapy (did you really think journaling wasn’t therapeutic?) Call it the wisdom within our soul if you’re more comfortable with that, but our truths are revealed whether we want them to show or not I’ll look back on a collage and be stunned at the insight that’s so obvious with a second study. The only intention I had in creating this piece was the blue color, using the jacket element as a focus. Next thing I know, I’m showing myself as a corporate executive and entrepreneur whispering the thought, “It was an artist’s life I wanted.” WTF? I come from a long line of creators and makers, from painters and authors to seamstress and royal cloth weavers. While I’m grateful for the nearly three decades of business experience, I’m way happier expressing myself within art whether it be collaging or creative parenting. This is ink art fun I had using stamps and fountain pen ink on a swatch card. I used Sailor Studio 123, FWP Malibu Blush, Bumbling Blossom and Morning Glory Glow with a tiny bit of Pelikan’s Rose Quartz thrown in. I think Wei hit CNY out of the park with her stunning @blackmilkproject designs. I couldn’t resist the Japan theme in this second layout (and yes, I’m aware I mixed cultures and traditions). Had so much fun assembling and adding to my dragon collection this year — from my pink Jellycat dragon to the Year of the Dragon candies from Cavendish and Harvey. Best find of all was the dragon cookie cutter. The cookies are baked - decorating later today. 📸✒️ Macro nib Monday 🖋️📸 Late shout out to my go-to nibmeister, JC of @thenibtailor. Not only does he do stellar work, he’s so accommodating and welcoming. These are the pens that JC adjusted just for my writing style - twisted, loopy, fast writing and pens held at a strange angle. But they are all perfect for me now whether I’m taking notes, writing morning pages or playing with ink. A nib adjustment can make a pen that you feel ho-hum about to one you won’t give up for the world Now you all know I adore pretty pens, but after testing most of the nibs available, I’ve realized I have enough for now and don’t have any pen lusts for 2024. Even the best pen in the world won’t transform my handwriting into a beautiful calligraphy or Spencerian style. 💠 🩵In the mood for a wintery colored Turquoise Tuesday 🩵💠 I adore this kaleidoscope snowflake end cap on the Magic of Alice pen from @bungubox_japan. It was made using maki-e and mother-of-pearl. This lot was from their re-release of the 2019 original 100 pens and it’s just as magnificent. Both Fujiyama Blue and Autumn Pixie Parasols are perfect ink matches but Alice from Wearingeul is a nice shimmer to pair with this pen. Winter, Spring and Summer must be my color palette if these Top Nine most liked posts of 2023 are any guide It’s been a year of repair and rebuilding physically—accepting the limitations imposed by pain and healing and doing the work required to rehabilitate, trying to remember it’s only going to be for a relatively short time span Thankfully I was still able to splat inks and focused on accessorizing the pens in my collection (with a few new additions). 2023 began and ended with a fascination with nibs and this PenBBS No. 2 Calligraphy 14K nib does not disappoint I’d lusted after their gorgeous engraved nibs for a long time and these twin griffons are a delight. Writing with this nib is fabulous fun and the 14K material is well worth the investment for bounce and minimal feedback. The line width varies from 0.8-1.5mm which is approximately the size of a broad to a stub nib without requiring any calligraphy skills or specific angle for a single sweet spot. The nib handled my twisty, loopy fast handwriting without issue (swipe ⬅️ to see the handwriting sample) I chose their pen Model 456 in ground glass to house the nib. The nib came in a clever keychain style holder and is perfect for storing the fine size nib included with the 456. These are listed on Etsy and the company is wonderful to work with. I upgraded shipping from China for faster service at a very reasonable price. Different engraved images are also offered.
