As one of the technical partners of the AbuDhabi Autonomous Racing League, we supplied our Corner Brake Actuators, Pynion-type Steering Actuator and Body System Unit to all the racecars, which allowed their operation. During the #A2RL race, we were allocated a special area within the exclusive F1 paddock lounge, where we exposed a test bench garnering considerable intrest from attendees keen to learn more about its operational mechanisms. The idea behind it was to showcase all the #Meccanica42 actuators and to demonstrate how they behaved and functioned within the cars once on the track. All #actuators were connected to a PC running a simulation of a lap around the #track, with all target signals being sent to the actuators that directly operated on the car's components, such as the #SteeringRack and #BrakeCalipers. For the first time, the BSU is used on autonomous vehicles to simplify the interface for the user. ♦ Moreover, it manages the entire drive-by-wire system, along with emergency strategy and power management, by perfectly integrating with other systems such as engine management units. ♦ Thanks to its versatility, it can implement both ABS and ESC logic, effortlessly reading speed values from wheel speed sensors and master cylinder pressures. REACTION TIMES 🧠⏳🚔 Year 9s have been studying the nervous system & today we put our knowledge into action using a driving (braking) simulation. For this prac, students had to stomp on the ruler as soon as they noticed it falling (simulating suddenly having to brake while driving). We had three different experimental conditions. 1. Control (no distractions) 2. Distracting the driver by talking to (or in the case of the video, screaming/squealing at) them 3. Driver had to read a passage (simulating that of checking your phone while driving). We hypothesised that condition one would have the fastest reaction times. HOWEVER, to our surprise, we found that on average, condition two had the best reaction times???? It actually sparked interesting discussions of why students seem to work better in loud environments! Some students mentioned that they spend hours playing games where they have to focus amidst constant chatter, others identified that they have younger siblings/loud houses etc. So, in conclusion, my year 9's work best in a chaotic environment 🥲 #highschoolteacher #highschoolscience #reactiontime #reflex #drivingsimulation #sciencepractical #handsonlearning
