Verstappen got away well from pole whilst Sainz took P2 from Leclerc. Perez ran deep into Turn 1 and nearly ran into the Ferrari's❗️ - Leclerc then got back ahead of Sainz. Alpine duo Ocon and Gasly battled furiously on Lap 1, with Gasly emerging ahead 💪 - Meanwhile, Verstappen led ahead of Leclerc, Piastri, Sainz and Perez. On Lap 4, Piastri swiped P2 from Leclerc with a nice move 👏 - On Lap 15, Verstappen was told to increase his speed to cover off Piastri. Despite being all over the back of Perez in P5, Norris wasn't able to get past ❌️ - Perez pitted on Lap 18, releasing Norris into clear air. By this stage, Leclerc was still close behind Piastri but the pair had dropped Sainz 💯 - Leclerc came in on Lap 20, with Ferrari performing an impressive 1.9-second pitstop. The Virtual Safety Car was briefly deployed on Lap 23 after Verstappen hit a bollard which landed on the track ⚠️ - Verstappen pitted at the end of that lap after the VSC ended, leaving Piastri in the lead ahead of Sainz and Norris 🔥 - Piastri and Sainz pitted on Lap 27, with Norris taking the lead ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc. Just after that, the SC was deployed after Magnussen put Sargeant into the wall 💥 - Norris pitted and emerged in the lead. The restart came on Lap 33, with Norris leading Verstappen, Leclerc, Piastri and Sainz 🎯 - Norris pulled away quickly, whilst Piastri defended P4 robustly from Sainz. Over the next few laps, Norris extended his lead ➡️ - Sainz then aggressively barged his way past Piastri, who picked up front wing damage and dropped back. 🇮🇹 ITALIAN F4 - Race 1, Race 2 & Race 3 winner: FREDDIE SLATER 🇬🇧 - In Race 1, Freddie Slater (who dominated qualifying) got away well to lead ahead of Alex Powell, Gianmarco Pradel and Akshay Bohra. Kai Daryanani and Nathanaël Berrerby both retired in separate incidents early on ⚠️ - After a Safety Car period, the leaders held position Jack Beeton took P5 from Hiyu Yamakoshi. Slater and Powell proceeded to pull away from the field ➡️ - From here, Slater controlled the race and went on to win ahead of Powell, Pradel, Bohra and Beeton. Race 2 was slightly more chaotic❗️ - At the start, Slater stayed ahead of Powell. At Turn 2, Davide Larini lunged at Kean Nakamura-Berta but the pair made contact and Larini's car ended up on top of Nakamura-Berta 💥 - Fortunately, both were okay and the SC was deployed. There wasn't much action after the restart, as Alvise Rodella retired and the SC returned 🔄 - Slater flew clear at the second restart, with Powell also comfortably ahead of Akshay Bohra in P3. Esto ya era esperado por Fernando Alonso, que había dicho en la rueda de prensa tras el Sprint que no habría castigo sobre Hamilton "por no ser español". Verstappen held off Leclerc at the start, whilst Perez dropped back. Behind them, Alonso and Stroll made contact at Turn 1 and Norris got taken out 💥 - Alonso had nowhere to go, with Hamilton up his inside, but it seemed like a regular Lap 1 racing incident. The Safety Car was deployed, with Stroll and Norris out of the race ⚠️ - Verstappen led away at the restart ahead of Leclerc, Ricciardo, Perez and Sainz. On Lap 5, Perez passed Ricciardo for P3 and Sainz then began to pressure Ricciardo 🎯 - Ricciardo remained within DRS range of Perez for a few laps, enabling him to fend off Sainz. Piastri closed in on Sainz, with Haas duo Hulkenberg and Magnussen behind him 👀 - Out in front, Verstappen led comfortably ahead of Leclerc who was pulling away from Perez. Hamilton had a look at Magnussen for P8 on Lap 8, but the Dane defended well 💪 - By Lap 10, Ricciardo had fallen out of Perez' DRS range. Meanwhile, Verstappen was complaining of having "zero rear grip" despite holding a 2-second lead 😬 - Hamilton was still trying to pass Magnussen on Lap 12, but had no luck. Magnussen received a 10-second penalty for gaining an advantage off the track❗️ - Ricciardo was doing a fantastic job to hold off Sainz and Piastri. On Lap 14, Magnussen and Hamilton's continuing battle allowed Tsunoda to pass Hamilton 🔥 - Magnussen then received another 10-second penalty, whilst Hamilton tried but failed to re-pass pass Tsunoda. Toto Wolff has dismissed reports that Mercedes is pushing for Andrea Kimi Antonelli to make an early F1 debut 👀 - After the FIA received a request to allow Antonelli to enter F1 before he hits the age of 18, it was believed that Mercedes was attempting to place Antonelli at Williams in 2024❗️ - With Logan Sargeant continuing to underperform, Antonelli has been noted as a potential imminent replacement. But Wolff says this is not a part of Mercedes' plans ❌️ - "The dispensation was something that wasn't brought up by us and we have certainly stated from the beginning that that was not something we have pursued," said Wolff, via motorsport.com. - This indicates that Williams independently asked the FIA about Antonelli, without Mercedes pushing for it 💥 - "I don't know where this belief comes from that Mercedes was keen on pushing that forward. 🇯🇵 JAPANESE F4 - Race 1 winner: YUKI SANO 🇯🇵 Race 2 winner: TOSEI MORIYAMA 🇯🇵 - At Fuji, the Japanese F4 season began on Friday as Kotaro Shimbara claimed pole position for Race 1 and Tosei Moriyama took pole for Race 2 🎯 - In Race 1, Shimbara stayed ahead of Moriyama at the start. On Lap 2, Yuki Sano snatched P3 from Yuto Nomura. Before long, Moriyama was challenging Shimbara 👀 - On Lap 5, Moriyama hit Shimbara and the latter was sent into the barriers and out of the race. Moriyama took the lead, but was handed a drive-through penalty ⚠️ - The Safety Car appeared when William Sakai hit Chenghua Lin, who had spun. After the restart, there were 3 laps left. The Dallara 324 is an upgraded version of the Dallara 320 car which has been used by Super Formula Lights and Euroformula Open in recent years 👀 - The EF Open season has already started and the field has continued with the Dallara 320 for another year. But over in Japan, the Dallara 324 was scheduled to be introduced this year❗️ - The Dallara 324 has been tested on multiple occasions and was used in SF Lights pre-season testing, but Dallara still hasn't officially confirmed that the car exists. Why? 🤔 - A possible reason for this could be that everything still isn't quite perfect with the Dallara 324. These issues actually caused the SF Lights season-opener to be postponed 💥 - Some cracks in the bellhousing were noticed, after testing was already complete. It was decided that racing the new car at the planned opener on 27-28 April at Motegi would be unsafe ❌️ - That round was cancelled, with the next round being scheduled for the 17-19 May. It's hoped that the new, crack-free parts will be ready for use in time for the season to start 🔧 - However, with safety concerns still yet to be sorted out, it makes sense that Dallara wouldn't officially confirm the existence of the 324 until it's 100% ready to race 🎯 - Why didn't EF Open use the 324 this year? That may have something to do with general uncertainty over the series' future, with just 6 cars appearing at the opening round 😬 - It does seem strange that iRacing is still the only entity to have confirmed that the 324 exists. Although they’re still bringing upgrades, it looks like it’s a new low downforce rear wing and some other performance upgrades but it’s unknown if they will put them due to the lack of time to do a good setup. Regarding Newey, yesterday Fernando praised the engineer but, if the rumors are true it all all looks like he will go to Ferrari instead of Aston.
