Flashback... On a day like today, American artist Robert Rauschenberg was born. Photo: October 22, 1925. Robert Rauschenberg (October 22, 1925 - May 12, 2008) was an American painter and graphic artist whose early works anticipated the pop art movement. Rauschenberg is well known for his "Combines" of the 1950s, in which non-traditional materials and objects were employed in innovative combinations. Rauschenberg was both a painter and a sculptor and the Combines are a combination of both, but he also worked with photography, printmaking, papermaking, and performance. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1993. What is the essential role of the artists ? Open one’s eyes to reality. ・・・ FRANCIS ALŸS @francis_alys_official ⁣⁣ Since 2004, Alÿs has created works which collectively present a picture of life in some of the areas that have been most affected by violence and crime. With these pieces, Alÿs does not offer solutions, but rather poses open-ended questions, in particular, related to the role of the artist in the time of a national crisis. In the present work, Paradox of Praxis 5: Sometimes we dream as we live & sometimes we live as we dream, Ciudad Juárez, México (2013), made in collaboration with Julien Devaux, Rafael Ortega, Alejandro Morales, and Félix Blume, he attempts to enact the aphorism expressed in the work’s title, and in doing so problematizes the idea of trying to create something beautiful in the face of a terrible situation. Here, Alÿs kicks a flaming soccer ball through Ciudad Juárez at night. His path is illuminated only by the light from the fire, which he must strike with his foot in order to proceed. The darkness of the night provides a veil for the city’s ever-present problems, including the sale of drugs, prostitution, and police indifference, which are only momentarily glimpsed along his route. This type of walking comprises an important facet of the artist’s practice, the repetitive, meditative action serving as a catalyst for the recognition of deep-rooted issues.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #repost @davidzwirner 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗶𝗼 to watch the full video.⁣⁣ ––⁣⁣ Francis Alÿs in collaboration with Julien Devaux, Rafael Ortega, Alejandro Morales, and Félix Blume⁣⁣ Clip from Paradox of Praxis 5: Sometimes we dream as we live & sometimes we live as we dream, Ciudad Juárez, México, 2013⁣⁣ Video, 7:49 min, color, sound⁣⁣ Overall dimensions variable⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #francisalÿs #davidzwirner #videoart

& @thepainterswifeofficial - THE PAINTER’S WIFE www.thepainterswife.com - A specialist in contemporary art and fashion and a veterinarian who found Pepa, our dog, in March 2015. She had been abandoned in the parking lot of our house and we immediately decided to adopt her. Gradually we realized how hard it was to find accessories for Pepa that suited our taste and lifestyle. In January 2016 we started working on The Painter’s Wife, a project dedicated to lifestyle for pets and their owners. With an eclectic, contemporary and fresh approach, aligned with our background, TPW brings to dogs’ lifestyle the needs and life philosophy of today’s dog owners. - @oneofthebestbrands @oneofthebeststores - #thepainterswife #oneofthebestbrands #oneofthebeststores #ootbb #ootbs #morethandogs #instadogs #dogsofinstagram #dogclothing #lifestyle #dogcoats #artistwelove #francisbomber #francisal #winteressentials #agnesmartin #fallessentials #agnesbody #fallfeeling #dogessentials #dogclothes #annicoat #womenartist #artistswelove
