Thomas Zimmerman at the National Guard air base in Lincoln. Roehler was selected for the media preview flight with the Blue Angels prior to the 2023 Guardians of Freedom Airshow taking place this Saturday and Sunday. “This was an experience of a lifetime!” Roehler said. “I feel so lucky to have flown with the Blue Angels. Happy Birthday to the Nebraska Air National Guard! July 26, 1946, marked the activation of the 173rd Fighter Squadron in Lincoln. It was initially equipped with P-51 Mustangs. Did you know Nebraska’s Air National Guard predates the creation of the U.S. Air Force? The latter became a separate branch of service more than a year later, in September 1947. The squadron’s lineage traces back even farther to the 401st Fighter Squadron, which was based in England during World War II, flying P-38s and P-51s on nearly 250 combat missions. It was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for outstanding service helping repel the German offensive of Dec. 2, 1944. The unit also took part in the European Air Offensive and campaigns in the Ardennes, Northern France, Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe. HISTORY On 11 July, the 155th Air Refueling Wing became the caretakers of a new aircraft. This KC-135 is from the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 108th Wing which will begin transitioning to a KC-46 Classic Associate unit this year. “The 155th has a demanding schedule of support to Combatant Commanders, so having another aircraft enables our unit to tackle more requirements”, according to Colonel John Williams, wing commander. @us_strategic_command @airmobilitycmd @airnationalguard #NEGuard | #NationalGuard | #Hustlinhuskers

E X T R A C T I O N Firefighters from the 155th Air Refueling Wing practice extracting a patient from a vehicle during an exercise of a motor vehicle accident on Nebraska National Guard air base, Neb., June 21, 2023. The department regularly train together on all aspects of firefighting and rescue operations. Members performed basic vehicle extraction skills of operating rescue equipment and learned the procedures and the protocols for extracting a patient from a damaged vehicle.
