I really enjoyed my visit to Ilkley… To see Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society’s production of Sunset Boulevard… At Ilkley’s King’s Hall & Winter Gardens… 😊 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 I loved this production of #SunsetBoulevard ! 🥰 The plot revolves around a screenwriter, Joe Gillis, down on his luck who finds himself driving his car, quite by chance into the palatial home of a reclusive faded silent movie star, Norma Desmond. Also living at Norma’s house and acting as her butler, confidant and protector is the former silent movie producer Max von Mayerling, who has had a life-long devotion to Norma… IAOS put on a wonderful show, with a fabulous performance by their talented cast of singers 🤩 And the orchestra was brilliant 🌟 Plus great sets, costumes, sound, lighting, etc… 👏🏼 A musical and dramatic treat ! I’m really looking forward to seeing Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society’s production of Sunset Boulevard tonight… 😊 At Ilkley’s King’s Hall & Winter Gardens… ☺️ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ 🎭 🎶 ✨ Ilkley Amateur Operatic Society was founded in 1923, lay dormant over the war years, and re-formed in 1963. It recently celebrated its Centenary and has just been rebranded as Ilkley Musical Theatre Society. Their premises on Leeds Road will continue with its name Operatic House, however, referencing the Society’s history. A donation from Ilkley Carnival covered the cost of a refurbishment of Operatic House last Summer, and the major aim of the Society continues to be to bring the best of musical theatre to Ilkley for young people and adults alike.
