Read 2 of the books I snagged from Books Galore in Erie, PA when I was last there in February. Fortune and Glory by Brian Michael Bendis: A nonfiction comic about Brian’s experience with adapting his own work for Hollywood. Told with equal parts sentiment and humor, this illustrated true story is a fascinating read from start to finish. I first became familiar with his work from the Torso comic he put out, so that was cool to see acknowledged in this. Definitely plan to check out his other stuff. The Little Red Wolf by Amelia Fléchais: Little Red Riding Hood gets an update in this dazzlingly illustrated fable. Imaginative and insightful, it’s an incredibly wonderful story for anyone of any age. Wenn gleich zu Beginn die Einblendung kommt "Nach einer wahren Begebenheit" war das in der jüngeren Vergangenheit in Verbindung mit einem Mark Wahlberg in der Hauptrolle so eine Sache. Bekannt für zahlreiche Blockbuster scheint sich der Hollywood Star nun verstärkt im Biopic-Genre wohlzufühlen, schließlich ist "Arthur der Große" nach "Father Stu" die nächste Biografie innerhalb kürzester Zeit. Diesmal spielt Wahlberg den Extremsportler Michael Light, der 2018 durch seine Freundschaft zu einem Hund während der Adventure Racing World Championships in der Dominikanischen Republik zum medialen Star wurde. Regisseur Simon Cellan Jones lässt dabei so gut wie kein Klischee der Hunde-Filmdramen aus wodurch die Handlung über die gesamte Lauflänge ziemlich vorhersehbar bleibt. Immerhin lässt er seine anfangs recht bunte gemischte und durchaus interessante Gruppe von Figuren nicht mit dem durchschnittlichen Drehbuch allein sondern gönnt ihnen eine zufriedenstellende Charakterentwicklung mit nachvollziehbaren Gründen. Hier und da schleichen sich dennoch Logiklücken ein und zu Beginn wirken die Protagonisten noch recht unsympathisch, aber mit zunehmendem Voranschreiten der Story werden alle Figuren zugänglicher. Eingebettet in die wunderbare Natur der Dominikanischen Republik bekommen wir klassische Bilder einer solchen Sportlertour, bei der die Kamera zum Großteil mitten im Geschehen ist. Alles jedoch nichts Neues und schon vielfach gesehen. Zum Ende hin drückt "Arthur der Große" gewaltig auf die Tränendrüse (leidende Tiere gehen so gut wie jedem ans Herz), womit es sich der Film leider zu einfach macht, was plump rüber kommt. Każdy marzył o tzw. domowym kinie czyli możliwości oglądania kinowych hitów a także nieco starszych filmów we własnych czterech ścianach. Najpierw nowy film trafiał do kin, a potem na kasety. Pamiętam zawierciańską wypożyczalnię na piętrze przy rondzie u zbiegu Sikorskiego, Pomorskiej i Dmowskiego. Pamiętam też giełdę przy Piłsudskiego gdzie ludzie handlowali i wymieniali się kasetami wideo. Po przeprowadzce w Warszawie lubiłem chodzić do wypożyczalni na Boya-Żeleńskiego.
