As a lead-up to the #ILD22, Literacy & NFBE with support from JICA-AQAL and UNICEF organised activities ranging from awareness walks to seminars and competitions to create awareness about the #OOSC crisis and the efforts by Government of Punjab and its partners to tackle the challenge of illiteracy, among the general public as well as its own facilitators and leaners. As part of the activities, an Art Competition was organized in all districts and learners encouraged to visualize and submit entries along the #ILD22 theme on, an visualizing and drawing an ‘ideal literacy learning space (“بہترین کمرہ جماعت کیسا ہونا چاہیے؟”). Learners actively participated in the competition and juries were constituted across all Punjab districts to select the winners. The winners received prizes and proudly saw their winning entries displayed as an art exhibition at the #ILD22 event, held in Lahore. . Meet our Literacy Hero - 14 year old Shahnaz from Hazarganji, on the outskirts of Quetta - Balochistan, who once dressed as a boy and named herself Mohammad Saleem - to attend the only boys' school in the vicinity. Since then, the JICA-AQAL funded & UNICEF supported Accelerated Learning Programme Centre has opened its doors for girls and Shahnaz doesn't have to disguise anymore.
