My Week 3 Takeaways… 1. Offensive play-calling was more effective this week than the first two games. Even though we only scored two TDs, the offense was able to move the ball and we showed improvement across the board. James Robinson finally got enough touches and Trevor didn’t have to throw downfield as much. However, that flea-flicker play was not a good call in that situation. 2. This was a winnable game. Like most Jags fans, I thought we were going to get blown out by Arizona this week. However, we put up a great fight. Our loss was due to a few big miscues that are all fixable in the near future. Hollister’s drop leading to an INT, Trevor’s pick six and Tyson Campbell getting mossed on a terrible pass were all plays that could’ve turned out in our favor if we made the right play. I look forward to seeing how we progress in these situations over the season. 3. Defense stepped up big-time today. Even though the Cardinals scored 31 points, you can erase 7 on Trevor’s pick six, putting them at 24. Allowing 3 TDs and a field goal to one of the NFL’s best offenses isn’t bad, especially for our young defense. We were able to disrupt passing lanes and even make a few plays on the ball, including an Andrew Wingard interception. It was rough down the stretch, with the Cardinals marching down the field multiple times in the second half. Our defensive line didn’t get pressure on Kyler Murray. Besides that, I felt we played great. 4. Lambo has got to go. We all love Josh Lambo, but he isn’t in condition to kick for an NFL team anymore. Due to surgery and multiple injuries, Lambo just doesn’t have it anymore. I wish him the best, but we need a new kicker. 5. Jamal Agnew is really good. He has two 100+ yard return TDs in the last two games. That is crazy.

My Week 2 Takeaways… 1. Trevor Lawrence should not be the focal point of our offense. It’s obvious that Trevor is not ready to take full control of the offense yet. After a great first drive, he struggled to make easy reads, threw too many risky passes, and wasn’t playing at NFL speed. If we want to win, James Robinson needs the ball more. 2. Our WRs need to create more separation. I’m not blaming any part of this game on our receivers, but it seemed like Trevor was forced to hold onto the ball way too long. Marvin Jones played a phenomenal game. Shenault had multiple drops and Chark didn’t impress me. 3. Our secondary needs some work. We let Teddy Bridgewater throw for 328 yards. Shaquill Griffin has had a shaky start to the season, along with the rest of the corners. Tyson Campbell is not in a position to guard number 2 receivers yet. The injury of Tre Herndon is proving how thin our depth is at the position. The safeties played alright. I saw a few good plays from Wingard and Jenkins. 4. The defensive front impressed me. Josh Allen is a great edge rusher. He recorded a sack and had multiple pressures and big tackles. The Jaguars recorded 3 sacks and kept Teddy Bridgewater under pressure. We held the Broncos to only 96 total rushing yards.

Week 1 Takeaways 1. We lost as a team. Coming into the first week, with a new team and a new coaching staff, I’m not really surprised that we lost. However, we need to tighten up if we want to be taken seriously down the road. 2. Trevor did not play a bad game. It was obvious that Trevor wasn’t playing his best today, but that doesn’t mean we can just give up on him. 332 yards and 3 TDs in your first NFL game is impressive. The 3 interceptions were ugly. Those mistakes are all fixable. He isn’t a bust. 3. Our coaching needs to improve if we want to win. The play calling was horrendous. Why would we let a rookie QB throw 50 passes in his debut? Why did Carlos Hyde have more touches than James Robinson? I couldn’t tell you. We need to fix that. 4. James Robinson was rusty. No shade towards James, he’s one of my favorite players on the team. But you could tell he wasn’t in it today. He had multiple dropped passes and a fumble. He’s one of our keys to success, so he needs to get the early season hiccups out of his system. 5. Our DBs need some work. Shaquill Griffin started the game off great, but then proceeded to make Brandin Cooks look like the second coming of Calvin Johnson. This is unacceptable. 6. Our run defense was pretty bad too. Josh Allen started the game off with a sack and we had a few tackles for losses. These plays didn’t make up for the fact that Mark Ingram and Philip Lindsay destroyed us. As a unit, we need our guys to get pressure on the quarterback. Tyrod Taylor was able to sit in the pocket and pick apart our defense all game. This is not okay. Anyways, on to the next one. DUUUVAL!
