In tomorrow’s #NumuYaduan class we’re finally venturing into verb conjugation as it relates to past, present, and future. We’ll also learn 3 temporal adverbs and 9 additional food (animal) terms (time permitting). There will be a ton of practice & repetition! #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

In class yesterday, we learned how numbers change form depending on if it refers to the subject of the verb or the object. In English, “one” does not change. But in Numu it does. The subject form of the number one is Sumu’yoo. The object form of the number one is Sumuhoo. And this happened to the other numbers as well! Hopefully I will have the class summary & review posted this weekend! #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

For our upcoming #NumuYaduan class tomorrow, we’re learning more about how numbers change form/pronunciation depending on whether they refer to the #subject or #object of a sentence. You can see an example of this difference in the image. “One woman” is the subject of this sentence, and “one man” is the object. And guess what? Even the quantifier Huu’yoo (which we learned in a previous class) changes form when referring to the object of the verb. Hope you can join us tomorrow at 6pm PST! #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

Class Tonight at 6:30 PST Last week we learned and practiced the numbers 1 - 5, plural people terms, and the 3 different ways to say “sit.” Tonight we’re learning the numbers 6 - 10, more plural people terms, and the 3 different ways to say stand. All are welcome! Don’t be ashamed to join in the practice, even if you need to pause to remember how to say things. That’s ok! Class is a safe place to fumble the words as we practice together. #numuyaduan #numuyadooana #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

During yesterday’s #Numu #Language class, we learned and practiced using these two prefixes, which both indicate desire (what someone wants). Hemma u sootuka? (What do you want to eat?) I used the soo- prefix because the desire is all inside their mind; it has not yet been spoken. If, however, they did say what they want to eat but I forget, I might ask them: Hemma u netuka? (What do you want to eat?) In this case, I used the ne- prefix which indicates speech; the desire was spoken before. A possible translation might be, “What did you say you wanted to it?” Keep in mind that there are always contexts where these “rules” may be bent or broken. Also, in some dialects one prefix might be taking over the other, so that only 1 desiderative prefix will be used exclusively. Examples: Me: Hano u soomea? (Where do you want to go?) Dan: Nu townwaetoo soomea (I want to go to town) Me: Hano soo Dan nemea? (Where does Dan say he wants to go?) Rhonda: Soo Dan townawaetoo nemea (Dan says he wants to go to town). Me: Hemma u soohebe? (What do you want to drink?) Dan: Kope’e nu soohebe (I want to drink coffee) Me: Hemma soo Dan nehebe? (What does Dan say he wants to drink?) Rhonda: Dan kope’e nehebe (Dan says he wants to drink coffee) #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

Preview for this coming Tuesday’s #Numu #Language class. We’re continuing to strengthen previously learned vocabulary while adding new vocabulary in the process. Nu mu natunedooedu tubengukwu mee, “Haga ka ____ tuka/hebe?” mee. Umu yise e nanegwegeakwu. Repetition, repetition, repetition. That is how language is engrained into our minds. During last Tuesday’s #Numu #Language class, we ventured into some intermediate level lessons (I think?), as seen in this image. We continued learning about feelings, this time including the feelings of hunger and thirst. But we also learned how to refer to some who is sitting on the left versus the right side. The full class and review will be posted in a couple days. Sometimes I forget that this is a beginning level class, but all who are joining are doing great! Nevertheless, I was planning a certain lesson for next Tuesday that I’ve decided to delay until much later. #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

Planning for next week’s #Numu #Language class. There are two sets of people standing in different positions from the viewer. One of each pair has their eyes closed, and the other’s eyes are open. What might the lesson be about? Hint: it’s not about opening or closing eyes 😊 #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

Preview of our 2nd #Numu #Language class coming up this next Tuesday at 6:30 PST. The primary question we will use to drive the class is what you see here. We will use it to learn: 1) Some #animals 2) More #people 3) Some #adverbs Once again, tamme obeda natunedoo’e! (We’re learning slowly). We don’t want to rush the learning process. We’re still learning the 1 + 2 of Numu before we get to more challenging #grammar. #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #educational

#Numu Class begins tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 6th at 6:30 PST. Here’s another preview of the class. We will use these questions to learn #vocabulary words related to #people. It will be a listen-response class. Lots of listening and repetition to solidify the phrases and words in our minds. Again, this is the simple 1 + 1 mathematics of #language #learning. We start with the very basics, and gradually progress as the weeks go on. #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #nativetiktok #native #indigenous #walkerriver #walkerriverpaiute #agaidicutta #numu #languagelearning #speakyourlanguage #utoaztecanlanguages #linguistics #morphology #semantics #educational #grammar

Making slides for our first day of Numu language class beginning Tuesday, February 6th @ 6:30pm PST It will be an elementary level class. Day 1 will focus on learning simple vocabulary words via listen & response to questions. To learn calculus, you must first learn simple 1 + 1 mathematics. The same principle applies when learning a language. Some times we are eager to learn sentences and phrases right from the start, but that’s not how to really learn a language. We will take things very slow. #numuyaduan #northernpaiute #numuyadooana #native #indigenous #nativelanguage #languagelearning #languagereclamation #languagerevitalization #speakyourlanguage #education #linguistics
