4/6-SEMS Paramedic Mike Battistelli and EMT Mike Egan were dispatched for the elderly female diabetic, not alert. Enroute, they were informed by Stratford FD First Responders that it was a cardiac arrest and that they had started CPR. The crew was assisted by Full Time Supervisor Eileen Brophy, Volunteer Supervisor Sean Campbell and Explorer Madeline. With early CPR, ACLS and excellent skills, the crew was able to achieve return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and the patient will be recovering at the hospital. Every year in the U.S., approximately 395,000 cases of cardiac arrest occur outside of a hospital setting, in which less than 6 percent survive. Early activation of 911 along with CPR and use of an AED can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. We encourage everyone to learn CPR.
