The Sixers lose round 1 in 6 games to the Knicks When Nick Nurse was introduced as the head coach he said that one of his goals was that people would feel that his team fought, no matter the situation or opponent. This is exactly the way I felt about the game last night, that this team fought and left everything out there. The Sixers have a big offseason coming up, as they have a ton of cap space and decisions to make. While I am disappointed in how this season ended, it was always clear after trading Harden, and not making a massive move at the trade deadline, that this year would be a gap year so that we can be big spenders in free agency this offseason. 2023-24 MIP Tyrese Maxey! There is no better time to celebrate this accomplishment for Maxey than after his legendary 46 point performance against the Knicks. TYRESE MAXEY!!! The Sixers absolutely stole this game thanks to Maxey. His clutch 4 point play, and then 3 point shot from the logo tied the game up. Embiid did turn the ball over way too much, but credit his defense in overtime as rebounded and blocked shots. For as much hate as Tobias Harris gets, and most times it is deserved, he showed up tonight and gave the Sixers 19 points. But again, Tyrese Maxey just absolutely carried the load offensively in a night where Embiid could not. Hoepfully this game can shift the momentum of the series, as I am sure the Knicks are devastated after being up 6 points with 28.7 second remaining. The Sixers drop a pivotal game 4 in Philly. Once again we got destroyed on the boards, especially in the 4th quarter where we got out rebounded 18-8, with 7 of those being offensive rebounds. Joel Embiid could not carry the load in this game, as he had 1 point in the 4th quarter. This was likely due to the fact that he played all 24 minutes in the 2nd half, and 44 of the 48 minutes in the game. I don't blame Nick Nurse for playing Embiid so much, as even though it did not work out as he ran out of gas, in this series the Sixers have a -37 +/- rating in 33 minutes with Embiid on the bench, and a +34 +/- rating in 161 minutes with Embiid in the game. So while it did not work out, I understand the logic behind playing Embiid so much. While the crowd certainly does not decide the outcome of a game, I was disappointed at how many Knicks fans there was at Wells Fargo Center. There were MVP chants for Jalen Brunson and cheers every time the Knicks scored. Im sure this did not help boost the confidence of the players, and this game felt like it was at a neutral site as we had no clear home-court advantage. Again, the play on the court is what determines the outcome of a game, not the crowd, but it was still disappointing to see lots of orange in the crowd. Now down 3-1 in this series, the Sixers face a deficit that has only been overcome 13 times in NBA history. So while not impossible, the odds are certainly not in the Sixers favor. Either way I will be watching until the end as I ride with my team no matter what. The Sixers lose game 2 in heartbreaking fashion. Embiid and Maxey showed up as they combined for 69 points, but the Sixers need more production from the rest of their lineup. The only other Sixer in double digits was Tobias Harris with 10 points. There was a very controversial ending to the game, as the Sixers were not awarded a timeout before the ball was inbounded, and after it seemed Maxey had possession on the ground. There was also no foul called when it appeared Maxey was being held as he received the inbound pass. My thoughts on the end of the game is to just forget it and move on. Nothing can be done about it now and theres no point wasting time thinking about it. Its now imperative that the Sixers win both games in our building. The Sixers lose game 1, but more importantly they did not appear to lose Joel Embiid after a scary fall at the end of the second period. Its not likely that Embiid will be 100% moving forward, but the fact that he returned to yesterdays game was encouraging, as without him the team has no chance moving forward. The Positives: As aforementioned, Embiid's injury not being too serious is great. Tyrese Maxey leading the way with 33 points is a great start to the playoffs for him. Also, Kyle Lowry had a great game as not only did he bring the hustle plays and defense as usual, he also has 18 points while shooting 4/7 from 3. Kelly Oubre also had a good game, as he had 5 steals, and did a good job guarding Jalen Brunson. The Negatives: This one is obvious, as the Sixers allowed an absurd amount of offensive rebounds. This has to be fixed going forward, because the 2nd chance points for the Knicks is what made the difference in this game. Another massive difference in this game was the Non-Embiid minutes, as the 76ers were outscored by 21 points when he was not on the floor. The bench scoring was also not productive, as the Sixers only got 7 points from their bench, while the Knicks got a total of 42 points from their bench. Overall, I still think the Sixers have a good chance to win this series, but they need to address some of the negatives I mentioned, especially not allowing a ridiculous amount of offensive rebounds. Even with the Sixers win yesterday, the Pacers and Magic both winning means that the Sixers will be the 7th seed and will be in the play-in tournament. The Sixers will be playing the Heat. If the Sixers win, they will secure the 7th seed and go on to play the 2nd seed Knicks in the first round. If the Sixers lose, the Heat will get the 7th seed, and the Sixers will play the winner of the Hawks and Bulls game. The Big Fella Returns! In Joel Embiid's first game in just over two months, he played 29 minutes as the Sixers beat OKC 109-105. I thought Embiid had a solid game as he tries to get back to his normal MVP self. Embiid's mid range jumper looked a little rusty, with some of his shot coming up short, but that was to be expected, and as he keeps playing he will hit those shots as he usually does. Embiid was clutch late in the game, as he stole the ball from Josh Giddey and then ran the length of the court before being fouled, where he then hit 2 clutch free throws. Overall, Joel Embiid's presence down the stretch will help the 76ers as they try to get the 6th seed and avoid the play-in tournament.
