One of my neighbors has a sign in their yard to promote more visibility and safety for pedestrians. As someone who walks a lot in the neighborhood, I fully support this initiative. In addition, the sign appears to encourage more tie-wearing when walking your dog, a policy I also fully support. . If I ever decide to dress up for a walk in the neighborhood, I’m thinking today’s nice bright tie from the #RobertTalbott Estate line would be a good choice to wear to be more visible.
The Texas Capitol complex is currently under construction and going through a big remodel and transformation. A few of us were looking at some of the artist renderings of what the future buildings will look like, which included a lot of people walking around, sitting, getting coffee, etc. Almost all the men in the renderings were wearing suits and ties, which caused a friend of mine to say, “You should work down there – they’re all dressed like you!”. . Until then, I’ll continue supporting my future sartorial colleagues by encouraging more tie-wearing, such as today’s old pro from @galerieslafayette .

I have recently been replacing some of my dress shirts, and I wanted to find a good home for the old ones. I located an organization at a nearby university that accepts business clothing donations to give to students who need them for interviews, and I took a bunch over there this afternoon. The staff was excited to get them, and I’m hoping they’ll help somebody land a great job. . Accompanying me on today’s trip to campus was this nice tie from @charvet_official .
Today’s tie from @tomford is one of the few ones I have from that brand, and it had the honor of accompanying me to the barbershop this afternoon for a haircut (where it stayed safely protected from flying hair under the barber cape).
The first round of the US NCAA men’s college basketball tournament begins today, and I’m excited. My friend @misterwdaniels recently featured retired Villanova coach Jay Wright, who was said to have the “deepest and sharpest suit rotation in the game”, according to a recent GQ article (apparently, he used to have 35 suits he actively wore). Luckily, he is now covering the games on TV where he can still show off his impressive wardrobe. . 🎄Tree update🎄 The bank near me still has their Christmas tree on display in their front window. I think we’re up to four months now. I may need to visit there soon and see if I can get to the bottom of this mystery. Maybe it’s now a St. Patrick’s Day tree (it is green, after all)? . No green for me today, but it is New (blue) Tie Thursday – I picked up this terrific wool/silk blend @etonshirts tie recently and am already a big fan.
I voted in the Texas primary election earlier this week, and the election official at my precinct who always remembers me as “the man who wears a tie” was not there when I showed up. I always joke with her that I can think of much worse things to be known for! Ha . Today is not only Leap Year Day, but it’s also my Instagram anniversary. I made my first post on this day eight years ago. I stopped by a theater right after work the other day to catch a movie. When I walked in, the manager saw me and said that I won the award for “best dressed customer”. I recently was reading about infamous plane hijacker D.B. Cooper and his escape and disappearance in 1971. It turns out he took his (clip-on) necktie off and left it on the plane before he jumped out, and that the tie been scrutinized ever since to get clues about his identity and location. . Last week, there were US Congressional hearings about social media. Several company CEOs were called to testify, including Mark Zuckerberg. While in line to get coffee at work today, the man in front of me told me that he was glad to see someone wearing a tie. He wasn’t wearing one himself, so I suggested that he should join me. He laughed and said he was an outside consultant helping teach a class in our office, and he didn’t want to “outdress the client managers” in his class. . I ran into a longtime member of Office Tie Club while grabbing coffee at work today. I hadn’t seen him for a while, and it was good to catch up. Turns out the reason for his disappearance was that he had moved with his team to another building earlier in the year. He was still looking as sharp as ever, though – this time wearing a nice pale green tie. . We’ve made it to #NationalTieMonth Day 14, and today’s @charvet_official tie’s claim to fame is that it’s the one I am wearing in my picture in the employee directory at work.

I forgot to post this one last week. I had a doctor’s appointment on Halloween afternoon, and when I walked in the office, the staff were all dressed up in Harry Potter-themed outfits. The receptionist greeted me, “You look nice. Who are you dressed as?” “I guess I’m ‘Man who just came here from work’.” . I noticed the other day that the night security guard in our office no longer wears a tie like he used to. Forget about intruders, the real crime he needs to tackle is the loosening of his dress code. . I mentioned before that I saw former US Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor wearing this same @charlestyrwhitt tie when testifying to Congress a few years back and was fascinated by its design (maybe it hypnotized me? My new boss’s boss’s boss set up a lunch discussion in the office for the team today. While talking about our return to the office after the pandemic, he pointed out and complimented that I still wear a tie but that he doesn’t anymore. Office Tie Watch continues – I ran into another young man today who was wearing a tie. He was on a call, so using hand motions I did my best to convey my support for his sartorial choice. Today’s tie from the #RobertTalbott Carmel line is the last one I bought from the famous longtime Houston menswear store “Harold’s in the Heights”, which outfitted President George H. W. Bush for his inauguration and closed over a decade ago after sixty years in business. . I will always fondly remember Harold’s, who introduced me to so many things on my sartorial journey, among them MTM suits, nailhead fabric, Talbott ties, and the idea that a clothing store would write a hand-written thank-you note to a customer.
