Acting Vice-Provost (Indigenous Engagement) Dr. Shawna Cunningham’s research explores the contributions of Indigenous student service centres and leaders in creating cultural safe spaces for Indigenous Peoples in Canadian post-secondary institutions. Her study received the 2023 Council of Graduate Schools/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award, the first @ucalgary recipient in the award’s 40-year history. Nominated by UCalgary's Faculty of Graduate Studies, her work highlights the importance of these centres in advancing decolonization and Indigenization efforts.
