Although we ended up just 1 placement out of semis, we had a great last show in prelims and could not be prouder of all we accomplished this year! This was the first year back in Dayton for a GT winterguard since 2017, the first to score above an 80 here, and a first visit to WGI for the majority of our team. Another earthquake shook the Columbia area yesterday, the fifth this year. The 1.9 quake was recorded in Kershaw County near Elgin at 10:47 pm last night. This is the same area rattled by two quakes on March 9. This puts the total at 104 quakes in this area since this string of heightened activity started on December 27, 2021 with a 3.3 quake. #WGWG #SouthCarolina

A rodent infestation continues in several Columbia schools and officials are still working to eliminate the furry creatures. Rodent activity for the month of February was noted at over half-a-dozen schools in Richland School District 1. The pharmaceutical manufacturer, Ritedose Corporation, is looking to expand in Richland County with an $81 million investment at their campus along I-77. The additional 225,000 square-foot structure will house a new distribution and logistics center. A teacher in Horry County is suing her principal and the school district over allegations of discrimination and harassment. Wendy Savoca was a media specialist at River Oaks Elementary. She claims in the lawsuit that the district created a hostile work environment when they refused to accommodate time for breast feeding after she returned from maternity leave. The lawsuit alleges that the principal walked in on Savoca while she was pumping, leaving the door to the room open where students and teachers could see her exposed. #WGWG #SouthCarolina

Fort Johnson Road on James Island has been closed for several days after a water main break caused a sinkhole that collapsed the road. The incident occurred Saturday morning, and heavy rains since then have complicated the problem. The sinkhole swallowed up a large oak tree. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Gergel has issued a final order accepting the $1.185 billion compensation plan from Chemours Co., Corteva Inc. and DuPont over “forever chemicals” that contaminated our waters. Georgetown County officials are going over plans for a new $67 million jail. The facility will be built beginning this summer, near the Georgetown County Detention Center off Brown’s Ferry Road. Mount Pleasant is getting a new park and sports complex between Six Mile and Hamlin Roads. The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission bought the 245-acre parcel of land for $20 million in 2010. The old Boone Hall Farms market, which was briefly Heavens Marketplace before they called it quits, is getting a new owner. Modern Manor cooperative will call the large open space home. Flooding is getting worse in Charleston and the data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration backs up what climate experts have been telling us for years. Last year had the highest number of flood events rated moderate or higher in over a century of recordkeeping. The Carnival Cruise Ship, Sunshine, whose home port is right here at Union Pier in downtown Charleston has some rough waters ahead. Two of the ship’s main ports-of-call are in the Bahamas. The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory last week due to danger in those areas. Freeport and Nassau have reported elevated gang violence including murders, robberies, and assaults. Another dog has been attacked while his owner and another beachgoer looked on in horror. The dog, off leash for a winter run on the beach, was approached by a coyote. When the dog ran into the dunes after it, several other coyotes attacked it. The owner and good Samaritan ran up yelling and scared off the coyotes. But, not before the dog sustained several bites. The dog was treated and released from a veterinary hospital. Sullivans Island officials have set out coyote traps in response to the increasing attacks. #WGWG #SouthCarolina

Anderson County is getting a new 40,000 square foot medical facility to the tune of $35 million. The new AnMed hospital will serve residents in Williamston, Pelzer, and Powdersville at their new campus off of I-85 at exit 35. Hendrick Motorsports is expanding their facility in Cabarrus County. The company’s president Marshall Carlson said, “This new facility on our campus will allow us to further expand our manufacturing work and create additional career opportunities for people with specialized skills. A South Carolina man is making national headlines as his research company announced this week that they may have found Amelia Earhart’s long-lost plane at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. After a great deal of controversy, it appears that Anita Huggins will be the new Superintendent of Schools in Charleston County. The 40th annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival is this Saturday at Boone Hall and thousands of shuckers are expected to descend on Mount Pleasant for the festivities. In addition to 50,000 pounds of oysters, there will be food trucks, live music, and activities for all ages. The party runs from 10am-5pm. #WGWG #SouthCarolina

Sullivan’s Island’s Police Chief is on administrative leave after what town officials are calling a “personnel matter.” Chief Chris Griffin has been with the department since 1997. He was placed on administrative leave with pay on January 1st, however that was changed to administrative leave without pay on January 17th. He has been in hot water before. Back in 2019, he was investigated by the town after a lawsuit against him cited “inappropriate messages” to women working at the SC Police Chiefs Association’s annual leadership conference. #WGWG #Charleston #SouthCarolina
