The upgrade I’ve always wanted….and needed picked up the beautiful @vinegarsyndrome 4K of Killer Condom at @monstermaniacon and finally gave the upgrade a rewatch and damn does it blow that @tromateam dvd out of the water. Make no mistakes that dvd is still iconic and amazing mostly for the cover art but that upgrade is so CRISP AND CLEAN. such an amazing and ridiculous movie. The titular killer Condom is such a great creature for a horror movie. Also just a downright fun watch and a blast of a time. Some absolutely wonderful special effects. Still one of my all time favorite flicks. A Sentient Condom with teeth?! Who would’ve thought that would end up being so iconic. I just finished this a little bit ago and I’m pretty sure I saw it a long time ago when it was originally released in 2003 - I must have blocked it from memory because it’s familiar, and it definitely scared the hell out of me this time around watching it In typical Korean horror fashion, it’s slow-paced storytelling with moments of terrifying and unexpected imagery comes in waves, lets you relax again for a bit, and then punches you in the face just as you start to let your guard down again with new images more frightening than the last Loosely based on the Korean fairytale ‘Janghwa Hongryeon Jeon’, it definitely delivers on psychological and supernatural terror through themes of adolescence, motherhood, jealousy, grief and mental illness I really liked this a lot and I’m pretty sure The Uninvited was the American adaptation of this story which was just alright. It really has nothing on its Korean counterpart. This really freaked me out, and I have to say, the storytelling is exceptionally crafted and delivers - the whole film just breathes a feeling of uneasiness because of the excellent camera work and lighting - you almost feel sucked into insanity watching it because of the stylized cinematography and weird, creepy camera positioning and angles used throughout - definitely complimenting the storytelling well The ending of the film is great - nice little twist that is both surprising and sad as the realization of mental illness comes full circle - I enjoyed this film and yet probably won’t sleep very well tonight 😬 🖤✨💀✨🖤 #koreanhorror #ataleoftwosisters #supernatural #scary #horrorfilm #slowburn #fridaynightmovies #janghwahongryeonjeon #fairytale #foreignfilm #roseflowerredlotus #folktale #greatending #kimjeewoon #ghoststory

A small, rural community is invaded by a Tokyo development company. They want to exploit the peaceful existence, by building a glamping site, not camping, glamping. Be close to nature, but not TOO close. They picked the wrong town though, because these people know their land. They also know that the development company is half-assing their due diligence. They expected to be welcomed for bringing economic prosperity to the tiny village. But these people know what’s what. There are long periods when nothing happens. We’re looking up thru the trees to the sky pass by. The longer we stay here, the more we’re convinced something bad is going to happen, but it doesn’t. Takumi #HitoshiOmika is the local jack of all trades. He chops wood. He gathers river water for the local udon restaurant. He also spots wasabi in its natural form, which he also brings to the restaurant. What he’s never on time for is picking up his daughter Hana #RyoNishikawa after school. She inevitably walks home on her own, to the point where it’s a running joke w/ the teacher. The construction company has hired what is essentially actors to answer the community’s questions & allay fears. But they’re thrown into a lion’s den. Takahashi #RyujiKosaka can’t get past the benefits of tourism as a talking point. Mayuzumi #AyakaShibutani said s more responsive, but equally as powerless in addressing the legitimate concerns of the townspeople. Something as basic as the septic tank placement becomes a full on battle, because the town KNOWS if anything goes wrong, the balance will shift & their water supply will be tainted. That will be the end. They also know that the company doesn’t give a shit. Evil most assuredly DOES exist & it’s coming from “civilization.” That said, this is not an easy #film to digest. Radiance Films Review: “The Shape of Night.” In 1929, Japanese film studio Shochiku was established, transitioning from the theatrical arts to the cinematic ones. Considered one of the major four studios in Japan (as well as the oldest), their contributions to cinematic history include recent releases like animated films “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” (2024) and “Lonely Castle in the Mirror” (2022), but also live-action titles such as “Till We Meet Again on the Lily Hill” (2023) and “A Man” (2022). However, most cinephiles know of Shochiku from films such as “Tokyo Story” (1953); “Harakiri” (1962); “I, Executioner” (1968); and “Flowers of Shanghai” (1998). In May 2021, physical media boutique Criterion added “Flowers of Shanghai” to their collection and, in January of 2024, Radiance Films added “I, Executioner” to theirs. Now, Radiance is set to add another Shochiku films to their repository with a 1080p restoration of Noboru Nakamura’s 1964 kaleidoscopic drama “The Shape of Night (夜の片鱗)”, complete with two on-disc featurettes and limited-edition booklet. I Am Love | 2009 Directed by Luca Guadagnino 2 hr 0 min Streaming on Hulu Guadagnino works his way into a two hour movie that lacks the bite of even his previous film. As a director you can see his progressions along with his steps backwards. He is clearly a work in progress as he hones in his cinematic elements with his writing style and character dynamics. Nothing is taken for granted by the process, but he is still on that journey by film number three. ‘I Am Love’ or the original Italian title ‘Io sono I’amore’ is his albeit breakout film that brought is work onto the international stage. It was nominated for an Academy Award for costume design as well as receiving high praise from critics around the world including a 4/4 stars from Roger Ebert himself. The film follows members of a wealthy family during a transition in leadership from their father to his son and grandson. The film is more a depiction of their evolving lives and relationships more than a story with connecting plot points. It highlights the relationships between characters and their internal dialogues that they are feeling. It is a feelings movie more than a showing movie. From a filmmaking standpoint the movie shows the quality of a pure feature film for the first time in Guadagnino’s career. He lets the movie do the talking and doesn’t stand in its way. However, from a screenplay perspective the movie is way too long and quite lacking. For every three steps forward he takes one step back. A good progression, but still leaves meat on the bone. Not to disagree with the great Ebert, but the movie is lacking more than its demonstrating. Rating: 9/10 Watched at the cinema for 21st Anniversary! A raw gritty and dark look into violence and crime on the streets of Brazil. The fact this is a true story aswell is quite crazy to imagine trying to grow up or have a life in that place. The film is incredibly well shot giving some powerful and impactful images aswell as showing the harshness of this impoverished City Of God. Seeing the violence in the film was quite shocking with kids committing acts of violence or kids being the victims of it, the hand or foot scene was quite shocking. The film showcases that the violence is endless and is doomed to spiral in these areas and that innocent children will keep falling into the wrong crowds and innocent people will always be at harm. I really enjoyed the two characters trying to live differently to one another and seeing the two stories together and apart. The photographer was a powerful character and the heart of the film showing strength as to not fall into the life of crime and knowing this was his account of his life is thought provoking and inspiring. The gang leaders story was quite horrific and brutal and showed us the nature of his business. The acting was really good too for unknowns, some really great performances in this to really make the story more impactful and memorable. The violence was quite brutal, bloody and unforgiving at times and the mix of that with the dirty and gritty setting really made it feel like a documentary and not a movie. A really great contemporary piece to show the hardships of life on the other side of the world. Su novela está inspirada en su amigo de aventuras culinarias, #Curnonsky y el famoso gastrónomo del siglo XIX, #JeanAnthelmeBrillatSavarin. La obra es un trabajo híbrido entre la ficción y el asombro ante banquetes y recetas reales. El libro ha tenido más de 50 ediciones e incluso tuvo una película para televisión en 1973.
