Key events include daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, backlog refinement, etc. - Real-time Visibility: Regular product demonstration at both the program and project levels replace traditional phase-gate governance reviews, feeing teams to rapidly release functionality without requiring formal approval. - Agile Planning: Traditionally, PMO planning happens at the beginning of the year whereas Agile PMOs update the plan based on the situations, needs, and lessons learned. There are several key practices to initiate and execute while establishing an Agile PMO. - Project listing based on Priority: Agile PMOs keep a catalog of enterprise projects that are ranked according to the order of importance by predetermined criteria. - Backlog Prioritization & Grooming: Agile PMOs clearly lists all the backlogs/requirements of the project based on importance and dependencies. - Simplified Team Structure & Approval Process: unlike traditional PMOs, which is very process-driven and requires a long approval process, Agile PMOs keep the structure simple and requires fewer approval steps. - Track Velocity & Progress: Monitor the agile team's work, delivered in terms of "story points" completed during each sprint, known as "velocity". There are several key practices to initiate and execute while establishing an Agile PMO. - Frequent Review & Lessons Learned: In an Agile PMO, reviews happen frequently. Key events include daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, backlog refinement, etc. - Real-time Visibility: Regular product demonstration at both the program and project levels replace traditional phase-gate governance reviews, feeing teams to rapidly release functionality without requiring formal approval. - Agile Planning: Traditionally, PMO planning happens at the beginning of the year whereas Agile PMOs update the plan based on the situations, needs, and lessons learned. Corrective actions are taken accordingly. - Resource Optimization: Traditional PMOs focus on the number of projects being delivered and assign resources to multiple projects, which eventually cause less productivity and motivation.
