Had the craziest time at the.botanical.expo yesterday with some of the most awesome planty people around! 🌿💚🙏🏼 There were so many fantastic vendors - I can only tag 20 so I'm sorry if you're missed - and I'm glad I got some more help at the booth this time so I could make a few rounds to chat and meet with everyone and also do some shopping 🤪. We were a bit worried about lighting, since it was a cloudy day and our corner had not much artificial lights around, but it did brighten up a bit so people could still see us! 🤣 I had to leave for an hour or two in between, so I'm sorry if you came by to say hi and I wasn't there! Back from the dead 😆 Came back from our Japan trip and was hit with some serious jetlag. On top of that school started pretty much right away, so scheduling everything was even crazier! But I'm happy to report that plants were all taken care of by my mom superbly and lots of blooms and surprises in the two weeks away! These large T. ionantha Ecuador were almost all in colour and blooming 🤩🌷 . Hope everyone had a great rest of their summer, it's crazy that fall is already here.... Had the craziest time at the.botanical.expo yesterday with some of the most awesome planty people around! 🌿💚🙏🏼 There were so many fantastic vendors - I can only tag 20 so I'm sorry if you're missed - and I'm glad I got some more help at the booth this time so I could make a few rounds to chat and meet with everyone and also do some shopping 🤪. Tillandsia chapeuensis var. turriformis is a rare species originated from Brazil, it has soft, velvety leaves that are covered in dense trichomes. The recurving leaves give them similar appearance to T. gardneri but they are even fuzzier and can take on many forms and shapes. . I've acquired this beauty for a few months now, and finally mounted it on a driftwood with wires and she is now hanging at the south facing window and living her best life 💚 . New Spanish moss variety "Green goddess" has curlier, thinner leaves and appears to be greener than few other varieties such as Chiapas 🥰🌿💯 . These interesting, trailing Tillandsia has always been a fan-favourite and clients often show me how they use it to greenify their space, decorate terrariums or even use in their gecko habitat!🤩 . These beauties love to stay outside in warmer months, I let the elements take care of them, they can take on sun, rain and everything in between! Indoors, hang them at a bright spot with good airflow and soak them once a week with your other air plants. After so many years of growing them, it's still so exciting to me when I find interesting and cool ways to display air plants - their rootless nature and adaptability is perfect for some creativity and fun! 🤩🌿🙌🏼 . I found this cool shell planter at thewateringcan few weeks ago, and at first I was going to find some house plants or succulent for it, but since it has no drainage, I figured my trailing Tillandsia streptophylla queen might be a good fit! 💚 . Air plant tip of the day 😁🌿🙌🏼 When in bloom, you can still water your Tilly, but try to avoid getting the flowers wet, this will prolong the bloom period and also prevent fungal issues, I do so by spraying just the leaves or dip the plant in a shallow bowl so the water doesn't get to the bloom. . Bob the boob cactus is growing and he ain't stopping for no one! 😆🌿 . I've had this funny succulent for 1 and 1/2 years now and she has grown nearly 3 times the size! . He is a relatively easy plant, I treat it just like a succulent and keep him at a sunny, south facing windowsill, water it every 10-14 days or when I see some sagging.... I mean wrinkles on him. A phenomenon about air plants is that they die after producing inflorescence - which sounds really sad but the truth is far from it! 😉💚 . While it's true that air plants stop growing larger after blooming, they don't actually die off right away after producing flowers. Instead, they continue to absorb light, water and nutrients and start to use them to focus on producing pups aka. baby air plants! 🥰 Eventually the mother plant will be depleted of energy and fade out, but by this point the pup or pups would already have grown into adult size, and some would even be ready to produce blooms of their own! . This process can take anywhere from 1 to even 3-5 years depending on species, larger species like xerographica can continue to live for a long, long time while raising the pups. It's a beautiful cycle of life and definitely not a sad thing! 🌿 . Spoon leaf snake plant - a super neat one for #sansevieriasunday 👀🌿😝 I know there are still many Sansevierias/now dracaena out there, but this one really caught me off guard and I just had to have one when I saw it at kims_nature . Sansevieria concinna aka. Spoon leaf sansevieria is a dwarf sansevieria that has a much different leaf shape than most other snake plants, but from what I learned and my short time with it so far, it takes very similar care to other snake plants - water when dry and tolerant of shade but likes bright light. They also have vigorous, thick roots and can be propagated and divided with rhizomes. . Have you heard of or seen this snake plant? I find it super adorable and just a joy to grow so far.
