A first visit to Ashwood Nursery and @garden.johns today. As I look back through the pictures on my phone I am struck by the fact I took very few and only towards the end of the visit. It is because I was simply captivated and entranced by the sheer beauty and atmosphere of the place which left no room for anything other than absorbing the sights, sounds, scents and the spirit of the place. A sunny cool April morning may have been the best time to be there, with all things in their Spring glory, from the tiniest ferns, up through carpets of Spring perennials, shrubs coming into bud and leaf, through the birdsong layer and tree canopy and up to the tumble of white clouds against a pure blue sky. Or it may be that the genius of the master planter and a wonderfully talented team were on fine show. Either way I have seldom visited a garden I felt I could have sat and stayed and just absorbed the magic for hours or days. And when all the senses were sated, joined the staff in a few hours light maintenance for the sheer pleasure of being able to work in this little Eden.
