Kirja käsittelee Saddam Hussainin hallinnossa toimineen kaivinkoneenkuljettajan omakohtaisia kokemuksia osallistumisestaan massamurhien toteuttamiseen. Alkuperäisen kirjan kirjoittaja Arif Qurbany oli lähettänyt oman tervehdyksen ja ja toiveet saada kansainvälinen tunnustus kurdien kansanmurhalle suomalaisille päättäjille videon välityksellä. Tilaisuuden avannut Helsingin apulaispormestari Paavo Arhinmäki piti tärkeänä, että kurdien historiasta kirjoitetaan suomeksi ja toivoi lisää kirjallisuutta aiheesta kirjastoihin. WHAT DOES ‘ANFAL’ MEAN The term al-Anfal is the name given to a succession of attacks against the Kurdish population in Iraq during a specific period. These attacks were named “al-Anfal” by Saddam Hussein and his cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid (known as ‘Chemical Ali’), who used this term to describe the carefully planned and orchestrated eight-staged genocidal campaign between February 23rd and September 6th 1988. In Kurdish society, the word Anfal has come to represent the entire genocide over decades. THE KURDISH GENOCIDE: THE FACTS An estimated 1million people in Iraq have ‘disappeared’ since the 1960s, all presumed murdered or missing. Human Rights Watch reported in its 1993 comprehensive report on Anfal in Iraq that at least 50,000 and possibly as many as 100,000 Kurds are estimated to have been killed at the hands of the Ba’ath regime.1 However, since then, several sources have stated that as many as 182,000 or even more people were killed in that operation Gendercide: Throughout the Kurdish Anfal, men and boys of ‘battle age’ were rounded up and ‘disappeared’ en masse. Most of these men and boys were captured, transported to mass graves and shot in mass executions. Of the total victims of Anfal, an estimated 70% were men, approximately aged 15 to 50.2 Thousands of women and children also vanished. Unlike the men, however, they were taken from specific areas as opposed to throughout the region. Evidence also shows that many were taken to internment camps where they were executed or died from deprivation.3 During the 1980s, the Kurdish population was attacked with chemical weapons, killing thousands of men, women and children indiscriminately. During the Anfal, 90% of Kurdish villages and more than 20 small towns and cities were completely destroyed. Anfal campaign in 1988 was performed in eight stages, in which 182,000 civilians lost their lives. Since 2007, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has designated April 14 as a day of remembrance to honor the victims of the Anfal genocide, where 182,000 Kurds were brutally killed by Saddam Hussein’s regime. In 2014, I delivered my first public speaking engagement at The House of Lords talking about my experience as a survivor. It changed the direction of my life. I left my city job, worked in Kurdistan during ISIS conflict then came back to the UK and set up @thelotusf in my living room with nothing. One of the main reasons for setting up Lotus was my lived experience and wanting to set up practical support to help women and girls impacted by conflict and displacement. Practical support is really important to me. My activism and advocacy is practical and offline, by choice. I do it through projects, in meetings, behind closed doors, by connecting people, mentoring and supporting others to grow in their strength. I’m lucky to be alive here today and my greatest job on this planet is to help fellow humans in need, within my capacity, leading with compassion and kindness, knowing that both are not transactional but a soul purpose. #kurdishgenocide #anfal #anfalgenocide

The Gas Survivor Selected from “Anfal Sequence” a series of poems collected and written by Dr. Choman Hardi ____ Between 23 February and 6 September 1988 the Iraqi state launched a genocide campaign against rural Kurdistan. The campaign targeted six geographical regions, destroying over 2000 villages, killing 100,000 civilians and displacing many more. Besides conventional bombing 281 locations were gassed during the campaign. The majority of the victims ended up in mass graves. Zwischen 1986 und 1989 hat das irakische Baath-Regime bis zu 182.000 Kurd*innen getötet. Der 14. April ist der Gedenktag an den Genozid an der kurdischen Bevölkerung und anderer Minderheiten wie Turkmen*innen, Assyrer*innen und Jesid*innen im Nordirak. Al-Anfal (سورة الأنفال) ist Arabisch und bezieht sich auf die achte Sure des Koran. (http://islam.de/1407.php) Diese Sure, die eine strategische Kriegshandlung gegen Ungläubige beschreibt, nahm die Baath-Partei unter Saddam Hussein als Rechtfertigung für einen Genozid. Die Anfal-Operation war die Fortsetzung der 1975 begonnenen Massendeportationen von Kurd*innen an der türkischen Grenze und wurde in acht Phasen (1988 - 1989) eine systematische Vernichtungsaktion. Es wurden "verbotene Zonen" vom Regime eingerichtet. Jede Person zwischen 14 und 70 Jahre, die in den für verboten erklärten Zonen aufgegriffen wurden, sollte umgehend liquidiert werden. Während der Anfal Kampagne wurden bis zu 182.000 Menschen getötet, Männer, Frauen, Kinder und mehr als 40.000 kurdische Dörfer zerstört. Überlebende wurden in Internierungslager umgesiedelt. Sie wurden stigmatisiert, überwacht, blutigen Repressionen ausgesetzt und als Volksfeinde bezeichnet. Es gab Massenerschießungen, mehr als vierzig Giftgasangriffe auf die Bevölkerung. Die übergebliebenen kurdischen Dörfer wurden im Zuge einer "Arabisation" mit AraberInnen besiedelt. ئەنفاڵ ئه‌نفال وشه‌یه‌كی عه‌ره‌بییه كۆی (نفل)ه به‌واتای (ده‌سكه‌وت)دێت (نفل) به‌شێوه‌یه‌كی گشتی له‌دوو رووه‌وه سه‌یر ده‌كرێت.به‌مانای ده‌سكه‌وت (غنیمه) دێت له‌پێش هاتنی ئیسلامدا عه‌ره‌به‌كان وشه‌ی (ئه‌نفال) یان به‌واتای تاڵانی جه‌نگ به‌كار هێناوه,مه‌به‌ستیش له‌جه‌نگ شه‌ڕكردن‌و شكاندنی دوژمن‌و گرتنی دیل‌و ده‌سخستنی سامان‌و ماڵ بوو. ئه‌نفال واتای زیاده‌‌و ده‌سكه‌وت ده‌گه‌یه‌نێت كه‌ئه‌میش واپێناسه ده‌كرێت ئه‌و ماڵ‌و سامانه‌یه به‌شه‌ڕ له بێ باوه‌ڕ ده‌سه‌ندرێت,وه‌زانایانی ئیسلام ده‌رباره‌ی ئه‌نفال بۆ چوونیان به‌م شێوه‌یه‌یه (الانفال وهو الغنیمه ای كل نیل ناله المسلمون من اموال اهل الحرب.ره‌نگه چه‌مك‌و پێناسه‌ی ئه‌نفال له‌رووی زمانه‌وانییه‌وه (لغه)و زاراوه‌ییه‌وه (الاسطلاح) تاكو ئێستا له‌لای زۆربه‌ی كه‌س شتێكی نادیار‌و نامۆبێت ناوه‌ڕۆكه‌كه‌ی مه‌به‌ست له‌بنج‌و بناوانی پرۆسه‌كه ئاشكرا نه‌بوبێت.ئه‌نفال له‌رووی زمانه‌وانییه‌وه كۆی (نفل)ه به‌واتای ده‌سكه‌وت دێت له‌كاتی شه‌ڕ‌و تاڵانكردندا به‌ده‌ست شه‌ڕژكه‌ران كه‌وتوون. شاڵاوەکانی ئەنفال، یەکێک بوو لە گەورەترین تاوانەکانی رژێمی بەعس دژبە مرۆڤایەتی، هێرشەکان نەخشە بۆداڕێژراوبوون، سەرجەمیان بە شەش پەلاماری جیاجیا و بە هەشت قۆناغ بەڕێوەچوون.جگە لە دزین و تاڵانکردنی سامانی گوندنشینان، وێرانکردنی سەدان گوندیشی لێکەوتەوە، تێکڕا 182000مرۆڤی بێتاوان بە شێوازی جیاجیا دەستگیرکران و زیندەبەچاڵکران لە بیابانەکانی ناوەڕاست و خوارووی عیراقدا. ئەنفال لە کەلتوری بەعسدابەعس شانازی بە کەلتور و فەرهەنگی عەرەبییەوە دەکرد، ئەگەرچی حزبێکی ئیسلامی نەبوو، بەڵام دەیویست ئیسلام و عروبە لە یەک پاکێجدا کۆبکاتەوە و لەو سۆنگەیەشەوە عروبە پیرۆز بکات.بەعس کوردی وەک هەڵگەڕاوە لە ئیسلام و عروبە وێنا دەکرد، بە سوودوەرگرتن لە عروبە و مێژووی ئیسلام، بڕیاری ئەنفالی دەرکرد و خوێنی کوردی بۆ خۆی حەڵاڵکرد.رێکخراوی نەتەوە یەکگرتووەکان بەم شێوەیە پێناسەی جینۆسایدی کردووە:«ئەو کردەیەیە کە بە مەبەستی لەناوبردنی هەموو یان بەشێک لە کۆمەڵی مرۆڤایەتی بکرێت، لە رووی نەتەوەیی و رەگەزی و نیشتمانی و ئایینییەوە».کەواتە ئەنفال، جینۆسایدکردنی گەلی کورد بوو، هەوڵدان بوو بۆ کۆتاییهێنان بە رەگەز و بنەچەی کورد. #anfal #kurdistan #kurdishgenocide #genocide #holocast
