The Greek word ฮฑฯฯฯฯ (aphros) means foam and, according to the Theogony, a poem about the origin of the gods written by Greek poet Hesiod, Aphrodite emerged from the sea foam created from the severed privates of Ouranos, Zeusโ grandfather and the primordial god of the sky. Zeusโ father, Kronos, did this deed at the request of Gaia, the primordial earth goddess (also known as Mother Earth). Gaia, Ouranosโ wife and mother, was very displeased with Ouranosโ treatment of their children, the hundred-handed giants. She asked their son, Kronos, to punish his father, handing him a stone sickle. There may have been other ways to attack Ouranos with a sickle, but Kronos chose to emasculate him. He threw his fatherโs privates into the Mediterranean near Cyprus, where they produced the sea foam that created Aphrodite. By this act, Kronos overthrew his father and became ruler of all, but not before Ouranos prophesied that one day, Kronos would also be overthrown by his own offspring. Which of course happenedโฆ and once Zeus and his siblings were in power, Aphrodite finally came ashore in their presence. She is often portrayed as stepping out of an enormous scallop shell, but sometimes she is depicted as stepping out of the sea foam. Wrapping up #musesmonday with my Record of Ragnarok Aphrodite. ๐๐ I was very saddened to discover that @themusesofcosplay and @musesoftheforce have joined the ranks of cosplay share pages that have called it quits. ๐ A truly sweet guy who truly cared about cosplay and cosplayers, Dan, founded and ran these pages. Over the years, heโs had to restart them multiple times due to IG issues, but he always kept going, no matter how frustrating this was. I guess it finally got to be too much. Being a share-page admin is not an easy task, especially when their share pages repost vs use collaborations. It takes hours each day to review photo tags and DM requests for sharing, then write, properly tag, and post the contentโฆ and then thereโs replying to comments and messages, creating stories, and more. Where are my golems? I need a hand with these! Aphrodite is back for #theathursday (โtheaโ is goddess in Greek). This was one of the last photos taken at this shoot; we always do a few goofy shots after to release the tension. Iโm poking fun at Aphroditeโs Record of Ragnarok dimensions, but let me step on my soapbox for one second. On the post sharing my @cosplay.alliance cover, someone had the gall to call me fat, pointing out that Aphrodite wasnโt. Well, guess what, pal! The ancient Greeks depicted Aphrodite in their artwork as being full figured (second photo). Itโs only in the last centuries that her waist got whittled down to Euro/American ideals of slender beauty. The ancient Greeks also depicted Aphrodite as small breasted; only Gaia, as the mother goddess, was shown as having an ample bust. Record of Ragnarok of course modified Aphroditeโs chest proportions to the slightly ridiculous (third image). I simply do my best to portray her to the best of my abilities. ๐ As for me being fat? Not that this matters in cosplay, because anyone can cosplay regardless of size. But no one has ever called me fat in my entire life. ๐ In case some of you donโt know, Iโm a competitive triathlete and open-water swimmer. I havenโt had a chance to truly train since my back issues, but Iโm still exercising and conscious of what I eat. Not that it matters in cosplay! Carry on! Happy Valentine's day! What better way to celebrate the than with some romantic pictures of Zagreus and Aphrodite taken in the River Styx!! It's really a testament to her passion that she would come all the way down there just to give Zag a little pick me up ๐ฅบ๐๐ฅฐ Getting these cosplays together was a bit chaotic but I'm quite proud of what we managed to pull together! I spent an absurd amount of time making the aphrodite hair pieces including hand painting and sculpting all of the droplet shaped beads. Zales did all of the wig curling to emulate the heart shapes in aphrodite's hair from the game. And of course there's no way I could've finished styling this wig if @dearwolverine hadn't spent hours crimping and teasing it for me to get it ready for spiking! An extra special happy Valentine's to all of the friends who helped make this shoot possible, and all of the others who have supported me through the years. I love you all so much!!
