Somnath Singh Studied Fine Arts from College of Arts, New Delhi and held his first solo exhibition at Dhoomimal Art Gallery in 2013. His art is a satirical take on modern day human life. He draws common things from his surroundings. He works are partly obscured human figures indicating the facelessness of the today’s world. The way the artist uses colours, by pairing deep colours against dull backgrounds, heightens the sense of melancholy one experiences while looking at the works. The works are cathartic for the viewers, as a city dweller caught in the circle of work, life, money, one can empathise with the predicament of the characters of the artist’s works. A calm and composed Delhi artist with an infectious smile that very modestly hides all the awards and acclamations he has accumulated for himself. Born on 6th June, 1968 in Delhi and continues to live in the city where he established himself as a contemporary artist. His artworks have been part of several group and solo shows in India and abroad. His expertise challenges the large canvases that delve deep into explaining the real human existence. The amalgamation of the colours and its countless tones, gives the rivers, hills, vegetation its own vocabulary in his landscape formations. His impressionistic works enlightens and creates curiosity to understand and relate with his language of expression. The innovative technique which the artist uses by adding layers after layers of paint gradually builds the essence of the artwork. He keeps reducing the colours, the lines and the forms until one is left with bare minimal, just enough to consume the work with the meditations and genius of his paint brush. The work underlines the philosophical perception, which deems life as a prolonged mystery that lets the seekers unravel the layers of it and reach a point where all the meanings converge to a spot making it so concentrated and grave whose very existence could be as null and void as an alluring black hole. Still, humans and other beings live on with or without the thoughts in hopes of investing faith in the mundane and the divine alike. In ‘Mystery of Life’ one could see the homocentric worldview as represented by the sitting human figures on the steel-nest habitats.’ Shovin Bhattacharjee Born in 1976 in Shillong, Shovin works in the medium of stainless steel, aluminum, and wood. A calm and composed Delhi artist with an infectious smile that very modestly hides all the awards and acclamations he has accumulated for himself. He was born on 6th June, 1968 in Delhi and continues to live in the city where he established himself as a contemporary artist. His artworks have been part of several group and solo shows in India and abroad. His expertise challenges the large canvases that delve deep into explaining the real human existence. The amalgamation of the colours and its countless tones, gives the rivers, hills, vegetation its own vocabulary in his landscape formations. His impressionistic works enlighten and create curiosity to understand and relate with his language of expression. Born in 1913 in Budapest, Amrita Sher-Gil was undoubtedly the first significant woman artist from India to attain fame internationally in the 1930s. One of India’s most significant artists, her extensive oeuvre is a unique blend of sharp commentary on the prevailing socio-cultural milieu and the philosophy of painting. Mere 29 years of life and awe-inspiring artistic achievements therein still evoke immense curiosity among art connoisseurs. The father of Modern Indian Art, Raja Ravi Varma was born in 1848 in Kerala. At 14, he went to Travancore Palace to learn watercolour and his best medium, Oil painting was taught to him by a British artist. He is given the credit of providing modern iconography to Indian mythological figures which were earlier depicted following strictly indigenous rules. He blurred the lines between traditional Indian art and contemporary art of that time. His portraits of Royals and noble women became very popular among the Indian ruling class, which liked his European realistic approach to immortalize themselves in near accurate pictures. In 1873, he won an award at Vienna and subsequently received multiple awards and felicitations.
