Voando sobre a Asa Norte de Brasília no início da década de 70 temos o British Aircraft Corporation 1-11 Série 400 designado na FAB como VC-92. Em 1967 foram adquiridos dois exemplares para servirem como aviões presidenciais sendo que o FAB 2111 foi entregue em 15 de outubro de 1968 enquanto o FAB 2110 em 13 de maio de 1969. Ambos voaram apenas no GTE até 1976 quando foram substituídos pelos dois Boeing 737-2N3 Advanced. London Gatwick August 1996 and this European 1-11 is pushing back at the start of a flight to Ibiza. When BA ended 1-11 services, European bought the fleet off them. Some were used for spares, but the rest became familiar sights at airports around Europe on charter flights. The low capital costs of the aircraft meant that they became popular for ad hoc charters, while in the summer they also provided lift for the smaller tour operators who didn't have their own airline. Once the 1-11s became too old, they bought some of Britannia's old 737-200s, and then hit the big time when they became a 747 operator, using some of BA's old machines. A Ryanair Europe 1-11 at Luton about to depart to Rome. Ryanair Europe started life as London European, operating a Viscount from to Luton Amsterdam and Brussels. The airline was taken over by Ryanair and renamed Ryanair Europe. At the time Ryanair were not able to operate from the UK to mainland Europe, so the acquisition allowed them to access these markets as well as providing valuable feed for their flights from Ireland into Luton. The operation wasn't a success, and the scheduled services were closed down However Ryanair Europe continued as a charter operation. In the 80s and early 90s their was a healthy charter market to Italy from Luton, serving the Italian diaspora living in the UK, and the airline played a significant part in this market before it all went to the newly emergent low cost operators, and the airline was closed down and the aircraft joined the Irish Ryanair operation. Southend February 1993 and this former Aer Lingus 1-11 is taxying to the runway at the start of its delivery flight to Nigeria. Southend was always an interesting airport to visit,with a wide range of aircraft visiting for storage, maintenence or repainting. Towards the end of the type's career, the 1-11 found a market amongst Nigeria's embryonic domestic carriers. Especial Transbrasil: o Jatão Ainda quando Sadia, a empresa de Omar Fontana encomendou, em 1969, dois exemplares do BAC One-Eleven da série -500, a maior variante do modelo. Meses depois, mais uma unidade foi encomendada. Antes das aeronaves chegarem, foi sugerido à Sadia o arrendamento dos dois BAC 1-11 da Vasp, uma vez que a empresa havia decidido padronizar sua frota com o 737-200 e iria se desfazer dos jatos britânicos. A aérea paulista voava com uma dupla da série 400 e sua menor capacidade não atendia aos planos de expansão de Omar Fontana. Ficou decidido então arrendar um BAC 1-11 série 500 da argentina Austral. A aeronave chegou em setembro de 1970, foi matriculada como PP-SDP e ganhou os títulos da Sadia na fuselagem, mantendo a pintura básica da Austral. Uma sequência de voos com convidados e também de treinamento de tripulantes foi realizada com o avião, que acabou ganhando o apelido de “Jatão”. Em 15 de outubro daquele ano, chegou em São Paulo o primeiro One-Eleven da encomenda original. Configurada com 86 assentos (12 na Primeira Classe e 74 na Econômica), a aeronave recebeu a matrícula PP-SDQ e ganhou as cores verde e dourada. O Jatão foi introduzido em serviço regular nove dias depois, em 24 de outubro. A empresa aproveitou para lançar novidades, como novos uniformes, as “Anfitriãs do Ar” (comissárias chefe de cabine que supervisionavam todo o serviço a bordo) e o “Cisne Real”, um serviço de bordo de altíssimo padrão lançado para promover a nova aeronave. BRITISH CALEDONIAN BAC 1-11 : There is a good story here and this was August 1977. I captured a remarkable moment when a One Eleven was cleared immediate takeoff, as a Dan Air 727 was approaching at just 2 miles for landing. Suddenly, the left engine of the Caledonian One Eleven erupted in a tremendous jet blaze that mesmerized me with its intensity. The Dan Air 727 was forced to go around, while the One Eleven swiftly vacated the runway and was greeted by fire trucks. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident resulted in a delayed much takeoff. I have posted this before but as we nearing 1 million view a month I thought I would repost for new viewers. A frota inteira de “One Eleven” totalizando 30 aeronaves foi entregue entre dezembro de 1965 e dezembro de 1966 e tinham uma configuração entre 69 e 74 assentos. Started by former Hughes Airwest executives in 1982, Pacific Express's business plan was based on short haul jet service throughout the West Coast from bases in California to communities that had been dropped following deregulation as many airlines reoriented their networks towards more profitable routes between bigger cities, particularly Republic and United. It was Republic that bought Hughes Airwest in 1980. Rather unusually, Pacific Express was an all-jet subsidiary of the Fresno-based commuter airline Westair. When Pacific Express was established in 1981, it had placed orders for six BAe-146 aircraft to be delivered starting in 1984 with options on another 8, making Westair/Pacific Express the second US order for the 146 after Air Wisconsin. Pending delivery of the BAe-146s, Pacific Express used the BAC One-Eleven, operating up to nine of them with the first One-Eleven delivered in December 1981 and the last one arriving in June 1983. The first year was a financial loss for the airline as it tried to enter the lucrative Bay Area-Southern California market. 1983 was spent recovering from that blunder and expanding services to medium sized cities as far north as Portland and Boise. The airline also acquired two Boeing 737-200s. Facing tough competition, Pacific Express was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1984 and ended up shutting down. The BAe-146s on order went to PSA instead. Westair would later get its own BAe-146s in 1987. Ironically, Westair become a regional feeder for United while Pacific Express took United to court for anti-trust laws. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ended up ruling against Pacific Express in 1992. Westair become part of the Mesa Air Group in 1992 and shut down in 1998.
