News: 🔺 Austrian Airlines has revealed its initial Boeing 787-9 routes. The airline will begin operations of the aircraft on 17 May 2024. The aircraft will operate flights from Vienna (VIE) to Frankfurt (FRA) and Berlin (BER). 🔺 Starting 15 June, the aircraft will operate its first long-haul flights between Vienna (VIE) and New York (JFK). Then on 1 July, the aircraft will operate flights between Vienna (VIE) and Chicago (ORD). 🔺 The airline’s Boeing 787-9 is set to feature 26 business class, 21 premium economy, and 247 economy class seats. Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 prototype was granted permission to fly at Supersonic by the US FAA. Fast-tracking the hypersonic era, Hermeus has rolled out the next prototype of its program, to create a family of aircraft that can fly beyond Mach 5. Did you know Hertz used to rent planes? According to an article I found on The New Yorker from 1958, there were two types of Rent-A-Plane plans. The ‘Fly Yourself’ plan for experienced pilots, and the ‘Taxiplane’ plan for non-pilots. At the time of this article, there were 56 airfields in the country with Hertz airplane rentals. The cost of a ‘Fly Yourself’ rental was $1.50 per hour + 13 cents per mile. The ‘Taxiplane’ service was $2.50 per hour + 18 cents per mile. The cost to rent a plane and fly from Dallas to Houston would’ve been about $30 in 1958, or $330 when adjusted for inflation.

I am so immensely proud of this man, I had to share. Today was his first Angel Flight. What is Angel Flight? It’s an organization that connects flights to people in need by providing them safe passage to and from medical care. Scott is now a volunteer pilot that flies people to their medical appointments at no cost to the passenger. They also provide other humanitarian transportation support such as individuals and families escaping domestic violence, disaster relief, therapeutic programs for veterans, and children’s specialty camps. Scott’s passenger lives on Orcas island and needed transportation here for critical chemotherapy care. He was nervous for this first endeavor, but of course, did beautifully!
