Get to know our Members ~ Hinda Koza-Culp. I’m a born-and-raised Barrie gal, a wife and a mom of two. I recently joined the communications team at CMHA Ontario, but prior to that I spent nearly 5 years as the Digital Content Director at Central Ontario Broadcasting (Rock 95, 107.5 Kool FM and Barrie 360). WHY Ripple: I joined ROK after writing about the donation that was made to breast imaging at RVH. My mom is a two-time breast cancer survivor, and so I understand very well the kind of difference a donation like that will make in people’s lives. It made me want to be a part of a group that does so much good. Get to know our Members ~ Tara Dawn Winstone Morning Show Co-host at Fresh 93.1. I moved to Barrie from Brampton in 1994 to take on the role of Midday host at the former B101 and never looked back. I had every intention of leaving town after 6 months and heading to Toronto but I fell in love with the people, the sense of community, and the beautiful landscape. When I think of my hometown, even though I did not grow up here, I think of Barrie. WHY Ripple: I joined ROK because I loved the idea of making such a large impact on the deserving charities in our area that don't get help from the government. Having volunteered with many of the grass roots organizations over the years, I know what a difference a helping hand like this can make, often the difference between keeping the lights on and turning them off for good. FUN FACT: I am terrified of bees and spend a lot of time at our fall events like The Terry Fox Run, and The Run For the Cure , running around flapping my arms. Get to know our Members ~ Whitney Sinclair I am a paediatric registered nurse and run all the paediatric clinics at Southlake Regional Health Centre. I will be starting my Master’s in Nursing in September and look forward to broadening my horizons. WHY Ripple: As a paediatric nurse I am well aware of the increasing demands and supports needed in regards to many of the charities that are nominated, whether that be mental health, hospital foundations or after school programming and I am happy to help in any way that I can. Get to know our Members ~ Amanda Sutton I am an Oro resident and business owner in Barrie for the past 15 years. My family absolutely feel blessed to be a part of this community and we want to give back what we can. WHY Ripple: As a female business owner, I own a PR/Personal Branding firm in Barrie called Catalyst communications, I've given to multiple charities and causes over the years, but the power of COLLECTIVE GIVING? Wow! It feels great to collectively come together and have HUGE impact on each organization. I admire each women in this group - no matter how long she's been a part of it. Get to know our Members ~ Christie Bond I am a Broker with Royal LePage First Contact Realty. My husband and I moved to Barrie in 1996 and raised our 3 kids here. WHY. Ripple: Over the years I have volunteered at my kids' schools, helped with the Breakfast Program at Ferndale Woods, was volunteer Co-ordinator for the CIBC Run For The Cure for a couple of years. Life got busy and I was pretty focused on our kids' sports teams, working 2 jobs, etc. I still struggle with time to volunteer, but have been searching for a meaningful way to contribute. Then I heard about Ripple and knew I wanted to be part of it. I joined in late 2019 and have been amazed at how much good these donations can do. Our family has lived a 20 year journey with a loved one who was finally blessed with a life saving organ transplant almost 3 years ago now, and it's sure been a double take on the importance of family, and how truly short life is. Get to know our Members - Stephanie Gourlie I moved to Barrie in 2003 and have 2 beautiful kids. I started several businesses over my life and still explore new ventures as they present. Discount Granite Plus was launched in 2012 and a General Contracting & tile business followed in 2015 which allows my passion to continue to bring construction, trends and home fashions concepts to life. I complete a number of commercial and residential projects all the time and enjoy the fun of working with my hands and with clients, everyday. I am honoured to serve my clients and on several boards including The Barrie Chamber of Commerce and Making Change Across Simcoe County to name a few. WHY Ripple: A community of wonderful mothers, daughters, friends, entrepreneurs, business owners... so many backgrounds coming together to support local community causes. Get to know our Members - Debra Kapty I got married quite late in life to a tax accountant from the Yukon and miraculously was able to have 2 children both boys now 19 and 16. Have not had a "real" job for 19 years but had done much volunteering until March 2020. Since the start of the pandemic, my volunteering has all been in the form of baked goods for friends and neighbours. The favourite item is Birthday Carrot Cake with cream cheese icing. I have made 27 of them since last March! I have lost count of how many 10 kg bags of flour I have used, probably a dozen or more in the last year. WHY Ripple - I joined June 2017, invited by my friend Lawrene Larche who is one of the best people I know so I was sure it would be a good thing! FUN FACT: I was a L'oreal hair model in my early 20's along with my identical twin sister. Currently we have close to 50 families with a child on active treatment. Typically during cancer treatment one parent must leave their jobs to take care of the child in treatment. This amazing donation from Ripple of Kindness members will support our financial aid programs. We offer care packages when a child is initially diagnosed, parking passes, and emergency support funds. During the Christmas season we want to ensure every child - at home and in hospital - has a fabulous Christmas so funds will also be directed into our Christmas program. 100% of this donation will reach the children and the families that need to be supported and loved.
