Lately I’ve seen people mislabeling Max Müller all over the place. Particularly in online auctions and among Chinese communities. As a zealous Max Müller fan, I have the utmost respect and admiration for his work and I find above “situation” distasteful and bothersome. While I do not (and would never) claim myself to be an expert in this field, I’d like to share an example with you to stress the importance of doing research and forming your opinions base on fact 🤍 This heart brooch with a stamp of “59” was sold to me as MM but somehow I just couldn’t see any of his characteristic. Bought it anyway because it’s just spectacular! Sure enough, a friend helped to identify from an old ad that it’s actually by Maryse Blanchard. Btw did you know a reputable German jeweler produced jewelry for this French designer? Then this giant flower brooch seen in picture 3 that had so many people throwing doubts is actually a superb example of MM’s work in the late 60s going on 70s. The prongs, the rose cut stones, the forward color choices, the setting… all reflect his signature craftsmanship, as well as bearing the eponymous stamp. I believe this is a perfect example and I urge everyone to do sufficient research before selling/buying. Certainly don’t merely go by what someone tells you. If you aren’t sure THAT’S OKAY.
